I love children and I love teaching children. I teach using a variety of methods. I have learned that children have different ways of learning. Some children are visual learners so I used plenty of visual aids when teaching these children. Some children are kinetic learners so I made sure that I used manipulatives when teaching these children. I believe that all children have a "best way" to learn. I determine what that way is, and then I taylor the way I teach to that way. I love seeing a child light up when they "get it". I love learning and I want to pass that love on to others.

A Little Bit About Me...

The goal of my approach is to enable students to have a level of ownership in learning concepts and ideas. Merely teaching the idea is not enough, and that "Oh, I see" moment must occur to embed the idea for long-term growth. I enjoy relating the ideas and facts to real world examples that almost anyone can grasp.
For a period of five years, I offered tutoring services to students at the University of Chapel Hill, Duke University, and North Carolina State University. My ability comes from experience...I was not entirely prepared for college when I started, and had to work much harder to successfully complete my degrees. I do not have a specific style of teaching for each student. Each student has their different way of learning. I would start out trying several ways, such as; visual, hearing, physical etc and see what the student is most comfortable with and which one is most likely to educate the child in a way that the student will remember the information while struggling the least.
I have tutored students individually at school, but a tutor needs to start somewhere or will never get experience. I have always helped fellow students with homework by explicitly explaining answers when they are asked or at least triggering their minds to what they need to learn. I am anxious to teach middle school aged kids as it will be a fun experience and I have always thought about teaching kids, because we all need to have the opportunity to an education.
