Psychology Professor/Reading Specialist

Over 25 years of teaching experience (all grade levels ~ from preschool to university graduate level courses). Since I have entered the teaching profession I have worked with children of all elementary levels. This experience has provided me with the tools to work with all types of children from grades K-5. Since I have graduated from IUP I have worked primarily in an urban setting which has afforded me the opportunity to work with children of various backgrounds from affluent to homeless. I have worked for one school year as a substitute for both Hanover County and Louisa County, I am Currently employed by Hanover County Public Schools as a teaching assistant while continuing my work on my graduate work. I will still be employed by hanover County Schools for the 2009-2010 School year.
I work well as a one on one special education aide because my attention is soley on the activities and education of my students. I am a laid back worker, and extremely patient because I find that if I allow myself to get out of shape, then I am not an effective teacher and aide, and my students will see this. A Little Bit About Me...

For just over a decade I have been involved in some form of peer education or mentoring. As a senior in high school, I tutored students in mathematics and science. As an ACS Certified Chemist, I have been exposed to upper level mathematics, chemistry and physics, but am still required to use writings skills in preparing various reports and papers. The opportunity to be a Teaching Assistant in upper-level chemistry and mathematics was rewarding and reinforcing at the same time.
