Over one year's experience tutoring writing at the college level. 8 months as a peer tutor at College of the Mainland, and 3 months self-employed. I tend to be really flexible and try to adapt my teaching style to the learning style of the student. For students who tend to be more tactile, I might have them handle apples if a math problem references apples. If a student is working on a writing assignment, I will offer suggestions (such as marking spelling/grammar/punction mistakes) and help them learn how to correct the errors so they won't continue to make the same errors in the future.

A Little Bit About Me...

My missionary experiences informed me of one idea: people are important and they have to be considered person-by-person. Those experiences have led me to take a teaching philosophy and teaching practice that is person-centric. I work to understand the rhetorics, theories, practices, and experiences that inform each student and the classroom as a whole. In practice, this manifests in extensive talking and co-writing (on daily assignments) to assess where exactly these students are at and how I can help them.
