A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked in a wide range of business and educational settings and have worked with students from grade school to adult. When I earned my BS in English, with a thirty credit business minor, I already had fifteen years experience working in a family run retail store. I have since worked a range of jobs including teaching business, computer and English classes. I also worked as a computer systems installer, service manager and office manager. I bring to my teaching a wide range of experience combined with a strong understanding of my subject areas.
As a teacher I believe that students learn best by doing, so I plan my lessons to engage students with meaningful activities that are mastered with hands on activity rather than teacher lead discussion.

My undergraduate degree of Communication allowed me to use my knowledge and skills of writing, editing, and publishing as a springboard towards my true passion of teaching and working with adolescents. As a public school teacher with six years experience, both in Pennsylvania and Delaware, I have worked with various types of learners, IEPs, testing situations, and curricula. I also have six years experience in tutoring and homebound instruction.
I believe that education is continuous and requires participation by all involved parties, meaning students must be active and constant participants in their education as well as the teacher. A Little Bit About Me...

I like to incorporate a sense of humor in my teaching - I believe when children can relax they are much more open to learning. I am also sensitive to children's different learning styles whether they are visual, auditory or kinesthetic, and tailor my approach accordingly. No two sessions are ever the same! Each student has unique needs and challenges and my job is to work "through the maze" and carry the message to the brain. I try to use practical and relevant examples whenever I can and appeal to the student's personal frame of reference so the goal of really "learning" versus "memorizing" can be met.

Having grown up in a family where education was highly valued. not only did I desire to attain my own college degree, but I was strongly devoted to the idea of helping educate others. My B.A. is in English with a concentration in secondary education. Initially, I chose to teach in Catholic elementary schools which included teaching and learning techniques to teach children from grades 1 to 8. Eventually, I joined the public school legion and taught high school English for nine years. I also taught the Composition and Research Writing Class at James H. Groves High School.
