Math and Microsoft Office Tutoring for Adult Learners

I look forward to using my experience working with adults (college students, new employees, clients, professionals) to help each student to progress academically. As a professional facilitator, I am skilled at bringing students to an understanding of the material. Training new employees has provided me with the skills to help adults get oriented to new material and information.
My style is based on incorporating everyday experiences to make the lessons come to life in the mind of the student. As adult learners, in particular, we look to our life experiences to inform our learning. I work with individuals and small groups to help them to achieve understanding.

Algebra I is one of my top subjects! Taken it twice passed both classes with high A.

I am hands on and like to have an example ready if needed.
I tutor my mom with college math when I was in middle school. I also helped my cousin when I was in middle school with all her subjects in high school. Now I am helping my sister with her elementary classes. I am more invovled with math since I did welding as a technical degree. I also did we'll in science and social studies because my welding teach was an ex- marine and ex- science teacher.

I have been studying algebra every since the age of 6. While doing community service for the boys and girls club, I learned that I'm great with teaching, mentoring, and communicating with kids! After two months attending Wilmington Job Corps I tutored kids for GED, High School Diploma, and some placement test needed for the program.
I teach by using examples!

I would say that my teaching style is very interactive. Anyone can give instructions but I love feedback from a one on one situation as well as a group environment. I base alot of my instruction on analogies; when a person can relate an experience or another word to a term being tought, their understanding is broadened and 99% of the time embedded in the longterm memory. That to me is not only developing the ability to draw on a built up knowledge base, but also broadens ones ability to convey what has been learned.
I have always wanted to teach. When I was a child I would round up the kids in my neighborhood and make them do lessons that I created. I do remember they did not like that. I went to college and earned a BS in Biology always knowing that I would eventually teach the sciences. I was an excellent student and have always found pride in myself on my ability to communi ... read more

I am a currently a working civil engineer specializing in bridge design (steel and concrete structures). I received scores of 760 in Math on both the SAT I and II, and a score of 800 in Math on the GRE's. I have taken several high level calculus, engineering mathematics, and statistics classes at the University of Delaware, aside from receiving a 5 on both the Calculus and the Statistics AP Exams. I have tutored elementary students in the past, and was part of a 'teaching scientists' after school company briefly in college.
I believe in talking through problems using visual ideas and simplified concepts. I prefer teaching with graphics and concepts, and then relating them to formulas and equations. While I expect hard work from my students, I also have the patience to help them understand at their own pace.

In my experience with teaching, I find that the best way to connect and convey the information is to provide aural, visual and experiential exposure to the material. Everyone does not learn at the same pace or through the same exposure to material. It is also important to be perceptive to the possibility of student frustration as this is almost always a road block that will arise and if not identified can lead to lower absorption of the material or complete lack of understanding and drive altogether.
As a re-founding member and President of the Syracuse University chapter of the National Society of Pershing Rifles (www.pershingriflessociety.org) I was responsible for the planning and instruction of between 12 and 20 students in the areas of Leadership, Project Management, Exhibition Drill and Wilderness Survival. Enabling a student to percieve an idea or to help them solve a problem is my passion. Using thinking outside of the box methods, I open up a new way of percieving concepts. I love to teach based on hands on methods. I truly believe it's the best way to learn. Therefore, I try to incorporate this method through creative measures. Repitition is the father of learning and as such I also teach the student the best studying techniques that will continue to make the student successful after our meeting is completed

I love to work with children, helping them learn subjects in a different way to gain a better understanding of the subject. I am available to help your child achieve academic success and reach their full potential. Being a mother of 3 children, it is important to me to not only see my children succeed in areas they are having trouble with, but to succeed in all areas of their lives. Since acheiving my first accounting designation from the UK in 1991 I have taught accounting and Business Law to adults until 1998 when I migrated to the US. While here I was succesful in passing my CPA exams and I am now a member in good stabding with AICPA and Delaware Society of CPAs. I have been tutoring my relatives kids in math and science for over 4 years. One child is now in High School while 2 are in Middle School. Under my tutelage, the middle schoool kids have been able to make the honor roll whenever they put in practice what is taught. The usual success rate in making the honor roll is 70%.
My tutoring style depends on whether the child learns better with visual aids or by other means. I also assess their weaknesses and determine if it is caused by lack of comprehension, fear of the subject matter or a lack of preparation.
