I have earned a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I have over 15 years of teaching experience in all grade levels. I have spent the majority of my teaching career educating young adults in the areas of math, science, reading, social studies and writing.
Through my teaching experience thus far, I have found the method of facilitating rather than dictating to be a highly beneficial style of teaching. Some people can read and immediately understand. Others need the repetition of hands-on experience. As a "late in life" graduate of Fordham University, I received permanent Teaching Certification and continued to teach in a public school district for 5 years. I was then offered an amazing opportunity to bring a non-profit pre-school and daycare back to fruition which I accomplished in under a year. I believe as an educator you have to understand the topic you are teaching and the students your are teaching. As a teacher you are dealing with various levels of learning as well different personalities. I believe you have to be open to what works for the individual and the classroom. Many young students do not understand why they must learn and why it is important. We as educators must show students how education applies to all life, especially theirs. Children love to learn and feel a sense of accomplishment and self-worth when they are successful. I greatly enjoy helping children learn. Each child has the capacity to learn and it is the teachers job to present the material in a manner which is conductive to the child’s understanding. Providing tools to help each student comprehend the material is essential.
