A Little Bit About Me...

I have a Bachelors in English from Dominican University. I began A Plus Master Tutoring Center over 4 years ago and was teaching in my home. Now we have expanded to a center in Oak Park and we tutor all ages, from Pre-K to adults. Our subjects range from phonics to algebra. Our teaching styles vary from a 3:1 ratio, which would include up to three students and one tutor, or a 1:1 ratio which would be a private session with a student and a tutor. My comments on tutoring Writing : I received a BA in English from The College of New Jersey, and my studies were primarily focused on studying the literature of various cultures and time periods. Afterwards, I worked for several years as a freelance contributor to a number of newspapers (especially Pioneer Press, a network of Chicago-area community papers) and magazines (especially Hybrid Magazine, an online music publication).

I believe in teaching in a relaxed and positive atmosphere that supports students' growth. Chess and writing/reading/English improvement are my primary objectives, and I believe strongly that improvement happens when the learning process is FUN. Simply put: My teaching style is student-centered, and so is my tutoring style. I start where the student is now, and go from there, working from strengths and shoring up weaknesses. Most importantly, I develop a plan of "action," by the end of the very first session, so I waste neither the time of the student nor the money of the parent/payor.
