My comments on tutoring Florida Writes : For the past 5 years I have worked with 4th grade students in school classrooms as well as tutored for FCAT Writes test. I have many tips and techniques to use when tutoring a student in writing.

As an English major in Education at the University of Alabama, I took many specialized courses in writing and reading. I learned many techniques for teaching creative writing and reading comprehension skills. For the past five years I have tutored students in FCAT writes techniques, reading skills and comprehension, and basic mathematics. In my position of Title I teaching assistant I taught small groups (6 or less students) and one-on-one reading, phonics, and comprehension as well as creative writing.
I absolutely love teaching and working with children. Children learn in unique and individual ways and sometimes struggle in school work because they learn at a different pace than the class as a whole. Individual and small group instruction greatly benefits these children in many ways. They have a chance to ask questions, to deal with specific areas of difficulty and to ha ... read more

I truly enjoy working with students of all ages. It doesn't matter what they don't know because I believe anyone can be taught anything, at least as long as you have the right teacher and materials at your disposal. I believe students are like little sponges. They're taking in everything around them. Obviously, if you fill their heads with garbage, they will learn garbage. However, if you fill their heads with quality information, you explain it in a way that they understand, and you make it fun for them to learn, then they will learn everything you're trying to teach. There are thousands of educators, but only a few real teachers who can get a message across in such a way that the student doesn't just do the work, they UNDERSTAND what they're doing and why. As far as I'm concerned, if a student doesn't learn something, it's not because he didn't try. It's because I failed to teach him i ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As an Early Childhood Educator I believe students should be nurtured and guided to rise to their full potential. I believe all children learn in their own way, and we must find methods that work best for each individual child. I love to use hands on lessons, roll play, and other interesting activities. Lessons should be challenging, interesting, encourage student involvement and improvement. I love to see the joy in a child when they succeed, especially in something they struggled with.
As a University of Central Florida graduate, I was driven to succeed excelling in my studies and graduating with honors. I have earned a BA degree in Liberal studies with a minor in Early Childhood Education and concentrations in Behavioral and Social Science as well as Art. A Little Bit About Me...

I have a communicative approach to learning. I feel it is important for a student to actually use the skills he or she is learning in communicating with others. I believe in order to teach effectively a teacher must find out the students' learning styles. All students can learn if their individual needs are focused on.
With a B.A. in Journalism, I have written for radio, TV, national magazines and several newspapers. I have worked with college-age and adult students teaching them English speaking and writing skills. I am committed to helping each person reach his or her highest and greatest potential. My goal is to provide each student with an educational environment conducive for a successful learning experience. The tutor must establish the learning setting by creating parameters for the emotional, physical, and mental safety of each student. Specifically, this means the physical location must be without distracters, while the learning content is perceived as helpful, fun, exciting, relevant, and beneficial. The demeanor of the instructor must be serious while being neither stern nor judgmental.

Here is Some Good Information About Florida Writes Tutoring

The Florida Writing Assessment was implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 as required by a law passed by the 1990 legislature. Does your student need a tutor? The best way to teach writing is to engage students in the writing process. This recursive process includes planning, writing, revising, and editing. As students become more proficient, the amount of time spent on each step in the process may shorten, and the necessity for teacher involvement should lessen. Florida Writes can be challenging.
