A Little Bit About Me...

Upon graduating from Ashland University with my Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education, I began teaching 3rd grade at a charter school in Lorain. Soon afterwards, I started my classes to obtain my Master's Degree in Teaching and Curriculum, which I acquired in May of 2008. After 3 years of teaching I decided to take my experience to the Lorain Public Library, where I am currently employed. I am the system wide story teller and I travel to the branches to deliver story time programs to children ages 2-8 years old. I spend a lot of time gathering and preparing materials, so I am familiar with all the resources needed to create memorable and educational programs. The methods of teaching I was instructed when I obtained my Bachelor in Education at the University of Akron Ohio, from 1989-1991, was the following Integrated, Whole language approach and Montessori. The method we were instructed to use in the Akron city school system was Integrated which uses basic and whole language approach language Arts. These integrated units allow us the opportunity to make sure children are learning relevant information and applying that knowledge to real life scenarios. My teaching style is not typical since I am not a certified teacher. I am creative in my teaching style using a variety of techniques. I understand that each child and person learns differently (Auditory, Visual, Tactile) so I try to discover their style and incorporate as much as possible. I try to teach using real life experiences and examples. I break things down into simple parts before moving on to the next level.
