The chance to tutor peers in high school was the initial spark towards considering education as a career. During my undergraduate studies the desire has grown as I was given the opportunity in the role of Teaching Assistant. I found from those experiences that I have an ability to gauge a student’s comprehension of the material during sessions. This allows me to make adjustments on-the-fly and in the process become more effective in accomplishing the objective. I have been involved in tutoring many of my peers throughout high school and college. I find it very rewarding to help others succeed in their education. Many of my peers just needed a different way to have the information presented to them. They needed to be outside of the classroom. They needed to feel comfortable. I gave them all those things as well as encouragement.
I try to find the best way to relate the given information to the student. Not everyone learns the same way. I will find what makes the most sense to the student and help them understand the given information. Throughout my education, I sometimes just wanted a different approach to the information. I would ask others their opionions and things all of a sudden were clear. That is what I want for my students.

I have 25 years of teaching experience in math and science at the secondary and tertiary levels. Concurrent with this, I have spent about ten years tutoring individual students and small groups in a variety of subjects for enrichment and remediation purposes. Typical examples of my tutoring/teaching include preparation for college admission, SAT, and SOL.
