Because I have had to meet the needs of so many different students in so many different environments, I am flexible with teaching methods. A lack of resources overseas drove me to be creative and exercise methods of experiential learning: hands-on and engaged learning. I believe in creating a safe and comfortable learning environment for students, with some room for fun. I decided to make a career change after working at Fidelity Investments for five years now to something I have a passion for, teaching children. As an early childhood teacher, I have had several opportunities to help children (school age), to do homework. I also was a tutor in high school to a boy for just Algebra, which then turned around to being all of his subjects and helping him keep on track. The hardest thing for me was that he had only lived in the U.S. for four years, and had trouble speaking English. After each session of tutoring, I would grab the Scrabble board, which encouraged him to use more words, learn new words, and have fun while doing so.
I like to get to the point of certain problems, such as reading the child/student when I see them, ask them some questions about the subjects they need help in and why they need help. I have worked with Infants-School age for over 5 years, and enjoy being there to help someone in need. I believe in giving back, because so many of us are blessed already.

A Little Bit About Me...

I earned my degree in newspaper journalism at Syracuse University, one of the finest schools in the country for this program. Since that time, I have worked as a writer, editor, journalist and reporter for several major organizations, most recently as a content producer for Monster.com's Career Advice. This position involved working with freelance writers to mold their work into a better product.
I believe that helping young people with their writing is essential to getting them to properly express themselves, as well as get them ready to compete in the world of work and school. I love working one-on-one with students and showing them how to improve their writing. I am a tough editor but believe that constant practice is the key to becoming an effective communicator.
