I have my degree in Elementary Education. I have had experience teaching large class sizes, but I have also spent a lot of time in small group reading instruction, and I have worked in small group math. I tutored a kindergarten girl to improve her phonemic awareness. I tutored Language Arts in elementary school after school hours. I worked at a day care for 5 years and helped students with their homework after school.
I believe in meeting students at their level of need, and mastering the skills needed in order to move onto higher level skills. I believe in teaching students how to develop their critical thinking skills, and teaching them the concepts needed to succeed in school and life.

I can relate best with the student/youth.

I attended Rufus King World IB High school in Milwaukee, Wi, one of the most prestigious inner city high schools in the country. I excelled in IB Geography, Chorus, and Theatre. I was one of those kids who never did any homework, but passed my tests. Everyone came to me for help on projects, homework, ect. I feel that I didn't fully utilize my strengths in school as I could have, so I would love to share that with those who need it now.
Very relaxed, easy going, friendly. I feel less pressure and non stressful settings help students learn better. They can relate to a younger person who is more in tune with youth and someone who understands them.

Four years ago, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from a local university. I received a BS in Rehabilitation Studies. This degree prepared me to work with our special population. My ultimate desire was to work with children. Therefore, I returned to UNCG and obtained my License in Special Education K-12. Over the past four years, I have successfully worked in the public school system. I teach at the elementary level which allows me to teach Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. I've always believed that children learn by doing. I would rather have my students get real hands-on experience because concepts can be better attained and understood if children get real experience with it. I also believe that children learn differently from one another and a teacher should be able to accommodate the different learning styles of her or his students. One method may not work for a student, so I feel that it is the teacher's responsibility to make sure each student reaches their full potential by finding ways that will work for her/his students and then incorporate these differences in the classroom.
