My style of teaching is extremely flexible. I realize that different students learn in different ways. I strive to find each students individual style and create a unique program to fit their needs. I am patient and creative and love working with children of all ages.
I graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in outdoor education. I have worked with students in a variety of settings both in the public schools and in the outdoors. I was a site facilitator at a before and after school program, tutoring 60 children grades K-5. I recently published a book called Light Hearts and Heavy Packs outlining my adventures on the Pacific Crest Trail. I recently graduated with my Master's degree in Social Welfare from the University of California at Berkeley, and earned my first graduate degree in 1997 at the University of California at Los Angeles in Education. I taught 2nd grade in a bilingual Spanish classroom from 1996 to 2000 for the Los Angeles Unified School District. I also taught English to high school students for the Peace Corps in Nicaragua. I have studied foreign languages and speak Spanish and Portuguese fluently, and also speak some French and Japanese. A Little Bit About Me...

My college experience was unique to the learning community. Instead of theorizing and contemplating what lives the subjects we studied were living, we lived amongst those most only read about. In addition to traditional bouts of homework and exams I lived in the homes and attended their schools. The philosophy, language and religions they lived became our texts. During which I spent an extended amount of time learning about Japanese culture, their language and their traditions. In Japan I was able to pick up a majority of their spoken and written language, which inevitably assisted me in completing an unprecedented study of the Chinese in Japan. The multiple discipline study allows me to share those subjects with my students.

After graduate school in the summer of 2003, I taught art at the Pathfinder Ranch in Idyllwild, CA for ten hours a day for three months with a very limited budget. From 2003-2004, I taught on-line students and acted as an academic enrollment counselor for high school students and their parents at Laurel Springs School, a home school in Ojai, CA.
