I earned my B.S. in Mathematics with an Economics minor from Upper Iowa University in May 2018. I have a BA in Music with a piano pedagogy minor. While a student, I started teaching piano at the community music school at my college. In January 2010, I started teaching privately in Loves Park, IL. I now maintain a studio of 20-25 active students. I also am a licensed kiddykeys instructor. Kiddykeys is a preschool music appreciation and keyboard exploration course which teaches basic music skills to children ages 2 1/2-5. I believe in wholistic music education, so I teach note reading, music theory, and ear training. I use instruction, interactive activities, games, and performance opportunities to give students a relaxed and complete understanding of playing and performing at the piano.

When I am teaching I am very patient and try to organize the lesson or my assistance in steps. I'll have the child read the problem or question, ask what they know about it, see if they understand the question and proceed. The patient style helps me see what the student's strengths and weaknesses are so I know what they need to practice and focus on. If the child has multiple assignments or tasks I have them perform the more difficult ones first. Starting with the easy assignments may seem like it makes sense but I would prefer that the student have more energy for the tasks they'll have more difficulty with. During my high school years I would volunteer to help children through various charities and church.
