I Make Less Mess and More Message Out of Math

I listen intently to what students ask to decipher their level of understanding. I wish for the students to truely understand and not merely mimic. Math is thinking. Too often I see people who at first are struggling with math treating it as a mimicing subject. Some repetitive practice is needed, but understanding prior to the repetition is better.
I have been teaching since I started college. I taught in the tutoring center at SIUE as a freshman. Since then I have taught a wide variety of classes at Lewis and Clark Community College and St. Louis Community College. I also have had students that I have tutored for many years until they moved off to college. Even then I sometimes was called for tutoring when they were back home. A Little Bit About Me...

I have a bachelor degree in Computer Science, so with this degree, I was able to utilize my math skills. I was a tutor for 2 years at 2 different area colleges. I tutored college students anywhere from basic math up to Calculus. I also helped students prepare for academic testing that was required of their majors. There, I tutored two fourth grade ESL students, an Italian boy and a Korean girl, primarily in math and reading.
