A Little Bit About Me...

My experience with tutoring began in high school, when I started assisting elementary students with homework through one of my clubs. Throughout the two years I was involved, I regularly helped 6 students, along with 6 students that I met with irregularly. I have experience tutoring children with behavioral issues, learning disabilities (dyslexia, ADHD, ADD), as well as students on the Autism Spectrum. I have two children ages eight and five. We learn with each other through discovery, often turning to our dictionaries and computers for information. I think that the greatest skill for one to learn is to be able to seek information that can be synthesized into the answer that is needed. I use constructive criticism, making statements that demonstrate why an answer or line of thinking is incorrect without implying that the learner is somehow less valuable for having come to an incorrect conclusion. My style of teaching is repetition of material focusing on specific areas where the student is having problems.
