While tutoring at my college, I received specialized training on identifying and adjusting to different learning styles. I use this knowledge to tailor each session to the needs of the individual student. To track progress, I like to set both short-term and long-term goals and create manageable steps toward reaching these goals. I also think it is important to teach students to establish general study skills so that they can make their own study plans for future courses.

Many children struggle with classroom learning because they require a different learning method than the one being offered or more direct attention than a teacher of 20+ students can offer. I have always wanted to be a teacher. I began tutoring while I was still in high school. I earned my BS in Elementary Education in 1980. I have tutored students of all ages in different subjects. Most of my tutoring experience has been in math and reading. I have tutored students for all sections of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam. I have been a homebound and home-school teacher, as well as a classroom teacher.
