My comments on tutoring Social Studies : GED level

Adult Education Instructor for 9 years. I have taught in community GED classes in Georgia also. My experience in Alabama has been with the penal system. This has been a rewarding place to work. We are responsible for over 100 GED's each year. In Georgia, I also taught basic computer skills. Reading was the main focus of this promgram. I taught mothers to read to their children. I also teach voice privately.
My teaching style is determined by the needs of my class. Each person learns differently. I have found that a teacher must provide visible, hands-on, lectures, and kinetic teaching styles to meet the needs of a class. At some point every student must learn to work independently.

I have recently earned a Bachelor's Degree in Legal Studies and graduated Summa Cum Laude, which is the highest of academic honors. In order to obtain my degree, I was required to take several courses in a very broad area of study including writing, literature, reading, mathematics, history, and sciences. I have an extensive background in English courses, including knowledge of several research and writing styles. My tutoring experience mainly includes English and writing work, but I also have experience with tutoring some math classes and history.
In general, I simply love working with children. I find great happiness in knowing that I personally helped a child succeed academically. As the oldest of four children, I have always been a leader amongst my siblings and always found myself helping them academically as they grew older. In tutoring, I consider myself to be very patient a ... read more

I am great with kids of all ages. My future goal in life is to become a family dentist. Therefore, I have grasped the act of patience very well, and nothing pleases more than helping others in any way possible. All my students would tell you I am very fun and easy to work with. I like to listen to what my students know and have troubles with first, and respond to their tutoring sessions with what they need to most. I know all students are not the same, and I like to work according to each student's individual personality. I am very flexible with times, and even if sessions run longer than normal then it is okay with me. I am here to help with the student's needs and not just to make money.

I love teaching and working with all children. I am a mother myself! I believe all children can learn, but each in different ways. I am available to help your child find academic success. I am patient, easy going, and considerate. My goal is to provide the best education possible. I am a firm believer in teaching through discovery and in providing a constructivist approach to learning. I believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. A few good educators can make a world of difference in a child's education. I truly enjoy teaching math and enjoy watching the 'click' when a student begins to understand the concepts. I believe many students have been erroneously convinced that "they don't get math" or that math is too hard. I believe in not just working through the problems at hand but in trying to help each student gain a better understanding of the thinking process involved in solving problems. Although proficiency comes through practice, there is more to math than just rote repetition.
I began tutoring students in 1984 while working in the math lab as an undergraduate student at the University of Southern Mississippi. After completing my Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics with a general science minor, I had the opportunity to teach college algebra as a graduate teaching assistant. I have been tutoring/teaching mathematics and some sciences ever since. I have experience tu ... read more

I believe that there are 3 types of learners: 1.Oral : learn by hearing 2.Visual : learn by seeing 3.Kinesthetic: learn by hearing, seeing and using their hands The Oral learner is a “teacher’s pet” because they are the students that will listen in class, barely take notes and do quite well in school. The Visual learner must “look on” as a teacher reads, not taking notes but to follow along in a book. The Kinesthetic learner usually has to listen, take notes, read along but will also tap their foot or a pencil. These types of “distractions” actually help a kinesthetic learner.
I have a degree in Early Childhool however, I have taught Biology for 9th and 10th graders in a private school. My husband, being prior military kept us moving so I have been a substitute for many years. I also taught my son until the 4th grade and he is now attending private school.

During my internship, teaching was a joy for me. I know this is my destiny and is the field that I'm supposed to be in for the rest of my life. My teaching style is firm and I try my best to make sure I do everything possible for the students in my possession. All children can learn and will learn with the proper attention and learning skills.I believe that each student is unique and not eveything works for everybody and some people need more attention and some people need less, but it is up to the instructor to find out which way is better.
