I graduated with a degree in Physical Science Education, which gives me a strong background in Physical Sciences and in math. I have worked with children and youth of all age levels and nearly every ability. I ran an afterschool program for the Salvation Army, ran a boys home for troubled boys and worked in St. Paul City schools as a substitute teacher and a night teacher at an evening school. I also have worked six summers at a Salvation Army camp. Through these experiences I have worked with both gifted and special needs children and youth.

When a question is asked, I am not going to simply just tell the student the answer. I would want them to think it out and try and figure it out for themselves. I would however guide them in the right direction and even ask them other questions they may know in order for them to figure out the intial problem. I feel that these types of interactions are a more effective way of learning. Also, writing things down helps tremedously because not only are you thinking it, but you're seeing it and reading it as well. I am a very easy person to get along with, and I am also very encouraging. I enjoy helping others whether it's in an academic environment or not.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that instructional strategies should be varied and flexible. Students are unique and their learning styles are different. Teachers need to have varied instructional strategies to try and meet the needs of the diversity of their students. I believe that knowledge of subject matter is extremely important, but not the sole component in instruction. In Mathematics, teachers need to have an understanding of mathematics as well as methods for transferring this knowledge to students. A Language Arts teacher may be knowledgeable about reading and writing, but has to find creative, interesting methods and activities to make students want to learn.
I recently received my Business degree from Ohio University. This degree enabled me to learn a wide variety of skills relevant to a number of industries today. I enhanced my grammatical skills due to the various projects and papers I h ... read more

I recently spent my final year in college employed by Ohio University as a tutor for athletes. I was paired with a young wrestler and my duties were to help him with all aspects of his studies. We covered courses including mathematics, finance, and economics. We generally met from four to six hours per week. Personally, I have earned degrees in mathematics with a concentration in actuarial science, as well as a degree in finance. I am an expert in calculus, statistics, and probability.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge and helping students understand mathematics. Math can be challenging, but when it is finally understood it can be extremely rewarding. I firmly believe that the key to mastering math is by repetition of examples rather than by studying complex theories. My primary experience is with young adults, and I am in my early twenties, so working with high school or college studen ... read more

I believe that children learn in a variety of ways and teachers are responsible for providing this variety. I like many teachers, have a constructivist approach. I also understand that students learn through various means and approaches, and teachers must be aware and knowledgeable of the means and approaches necessary to maximize learning and present proper accomodations when needed.
After achieving a bachelors of mathematics from Kent State University, I obtained a long-term substitute teaching certificate in integrated mathematics grades 7-12. A Little Bit About Me...

If one word could describe my teaching style it would be the word flexible. Each student is unique and different and needs to be taught in a way appropriate for him or her. A student will find me easy to approach because of my patient, respectful, and easy going style. Because I'm easy to approach, this will welcome inquiry and interaction which is vital to the learning process. In addition, I'm a firm believer that most students learn best by doing and by applying what they have learned to their own lives. In summary, I am firm believer that children want to learn and will if we show that we care.

I enjoy teaching at a high school level or above. I am very hands on. I am a bit of a story teller - rearranging the circumstances of the problem into an issue more easily related to by the student. I am very patient and relaxed - there are very few people who have a lower stress level than I do.
At MSU, I first worked as a Supplemental Instructor and then became a Graduate Assistant (before I even earned my Bachelor's degree) in the School of Business. I also worked in the math department as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant. I have taught business, accounting and math classes at the college level when instructor was absent. Accounting is by far my strong suit, followed by Excel, Economics and Math, however I do not use high-level math often, although I got A's in everything throughout college.

I have recently received by BS degree in Chemistry from the University of Dayton. As a chemistry student, I tutored fellow college students in Chemistry, Physics, and Calculus. I frequently held Drop-In tutoring with the school's LEAD program. In addition, I would also do One-on-One tutoring when needed.
I love tutoring, as it helps me keep up-to-date with the material, and I enjoy seeing someone finally grasp a concept they had struggled with previously. I typically help a student by example, if applicable. In math courses, I find that working through problems with the student is best. For science courses, going over concepts in the chapters before doing problems works best. I also help the student take better notes in class and take better notes when reading the chapter.

I love teaching and working with all children. I believe all children can learn, but there are different ways children learn. My goals is to provide the best education. I like to meet with the parents to make goals that they want their children to meet. Also, the areas they want their children to work on.
I was always driven to teach children because I like to see their eyes when they finally get what they are learning. I have learned a BA in elementary education at Ashford University. During my time as a tutor, I have taught reading and math for elementary and high school.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of Grove Ciry College in Grove City, Pennsylvania, I hold a BA in Mathematics and well as a secondary education teaching certificate. These degrees have given me both the education and instruction in higher level mathematics as well as instruction to teaching methods and styles. During the last 7 years, I have tutored students in Algebra, Algebra II, Geometry and Statistics.
I am "on-fire" for teaching. I have alot of enthusiasm for educating and I bring that to my teaching style. With mathematic skills, I believe that it is important to stress organization and "doing the steps". Even though math can be frustrating for some children, I try to break it down to simple steps and guide to students to work towards the whole solution. Positive experience and attitude will help all children with math. I want to be a positive influence in student lives and strive to be ... read more
