I retired from teaching after thirty one years in a variety of places. I began teaching English and drama in 1974 in Alleghany County, Virginia. After two years there, I moved to Sussex County, Virginia, where I taught for one year. I got married in 1977, and taught in Charleston, South Carolina where my husband was stationed while he was in the Navy. In 1979, I returned to Sussex and taught another year before finally coming home to Goochland, Virginia. I spent the remainder of my teaching career there. From 1980 through 1995, I taught English 9 and 10 and drama in the high school. In 1995, I moved to the middle school, where I taught 6th grade drama and English 7, 8, and gifted English 7 until I retired in 2006.

Approaching difficult tasks or challenging assignments with new ideas or fresh techniques can make reluctant learners receptive. I have worked with college students in the past, working with comprehensive learning and mathematics. I learned that each student understands in their own personal way; some learn by seeing something concrete and for others it is working through the steps in the problem that helps them understand. I have also had the experience of teaching a freshman seminar class where the focus was finding the students strong point or drive and having them research their major or likes to find what job fields might fit them well.

Graduating with a 3.4 GPA in Mass Communications, I have always been creative in both design and writing. I have earned a dual BS in Mass Communications with the emaphasis being in both Public Relations and Journalism. I also have a minor in Spanish, a language in which I am fluent. I have excelled at English since highschool and have written many articles, essays, and website content. Most of my tutoring has been in Spanish, although I would like to branch out into writing/grammar as well.
