Hi! My name is Allison. I am originally from Jackson, MS and currently live in Little Rock, AR. I am a student of life and love to learn and teach! Most of my teaching experience has been in general studies with students in the range of 9 yrs to 21 yrs old. I enjoy teaching all subjects as well as study and learning skills to students of all ages. I believe in working with parents and/or students to tailor my services to meet each individual student's needs. I studied many different theories of learning while in psychology and fundamentally understand what it means to be a teacher. My teaching style allows the student to learn the material as independently as possible and improve their critical thinking skills, by asking the right type of questions and finding the student's best learning style. I graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a double major in Psychology and Philosophy. I also received a minor in Interdisciplinary studies through the Honor's College at UCA. I started teaching Music in 1984. I taught part-time, temporary while pursuing education goals and working as a professional musician. In 1998 I became an adult educator, and in the following nine years I taught GED, Workforce, Computer and ESL. I learned to speak Spanish from some of my ESL students. Today I run a new program called Bachillerato de las Americas en Arkansas, comprised of curricula obtained from Kingston, Jamaica and Heredia, Costa Rica. I enjoy teaching all age levels. While enrolled in the teacher certification program with Hendrix College, I mentored/tutored an eighth grader in various subjects. I enjoyed the one-on-one experience thoroughly and quickly returned to tutoring at Arkansas School for the Blind. During my three years of employment with ASB, I improved ACTAAP reading scores of two students with reading/learning impairments after one year of tutoring sessions from Below Basic to Basic. I have tutored students in all levels of reading and literature, basic math, algebra, and the sciences.
