20 years of "in the field" I.T. experience. Currently I teach network administration and cybersecurity classes in southwestern Ohio (since 2009). I've maintained "websites" (e.g. http://gmvwa.org/) for 10 years (currently learning Django). I learned to program in Pascal (which had a lot of rules, and wasn't much fun). Modern programming languages are much more fun.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergraduate I studied computer engineering with a minor in math. After earning my B.S. I wanted to continue studies and push my career more towards math and physics so I earned an M.S. in electrical engineering. As a graduate student I had a revelation that caused me to reexamine math and engineering concepts, which led to a deeper understanding of them. I am now pursuing a PhD in electrical engineering. My teaching experienced has been unfortunately limited to tutoring family and friends in their college math courses over the past few years. However, those experiences have provided great insight into how to effectively teach a subject, and I am ready to use this experience to benefit a wider audience.
I have over time developed a strong desire to teach and to ignite in others the same passion for learning that my teachers ignited in me. I believe that everyone has the a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I attended The Ohio State University and got my Bachelors degree in Human Development and Family Sciences with a concentration in Early Childhood Development. After that I continued my education at Capital University to obtain my teaching license for PK-3 regular classroom education, as well as Intervention Specalist K-12 and a Reading Endorsment K-12.
I believe that every child should be given an equal chance to learn. If that means teaching a lesson three different ways to be sure to reach all my students, sometimes that is what it takes. Being flexible is very important in teaching, as it is important to be able to adapt to each student and each class, year to year. I think that all studnets can meet their potential if given appropriate chance and I strive to give students that chance.

I love to help people reach their goal as an artist. The way I approach it is to establish a goal in mind, and give them the tools to achieve that goal. I am very good at explaining programs and tools within the programs to help the students come up with solutions on their own.
At La Roche College, we were in direct competition with the Art Institiue of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon, and California University of Pennsylvania. We were held to very high standards and were taught ways to apply the design and marketing principles to any kind of job offered to us. I was in my sophomore year of college when I was named Sophomore class representative, and later president of Praxis, the student organization for graphic design on campus. I won the leadership award, the top honor in the department for my services as president of both Praxis, and AIGA, the professional association for design. I ... read more

Being a current student myself, I can appreciate the hardships and struggles of education. I feel that you must always level with your students, no matter what the age. The students are the ones who must lead the class. However, we as educators have a duty to guide and to nourish this idea. We must be leaders who encourage a positive and productive learning environment, while also maintaining an enjoyable experience. I believe in a split between communicative and explicit teaching. Students are given input through examples and other meaningful activities. They then are encouraged to attempt their own output through group work, homework, or discussion. At this point, students are prepared to solidify their learning with charts, graphs, mnemonic devices, and/or questions/answer sessions. Finally, new material is segued into the review, restarting the learning cycle. This overlap ... read more
