My comments on tutoring Algebra II : I am taking technical math in college. Algebra knowledge is required for technical math.

I prefer teaching my students to speak first. Once the student is fluent in Spanish, reading, and writing is taught. I emphasize conversational speaking a lot. That is what will get the student to lose the fear, and become fluent. Speaking a language is all about confidence. I consider myself a good leader. I was class president for three years in high school. I was the captain of the football team, and I have always taught by example. Example is the best teacher and the best motivator. With this in mind, my teaching style usually walks a student through a concept thoroughly, utilizing problems to guide understanding. I find it beneficial to first gain an perceptive of where the student is at, walk them through the concept, and discuss problems step-by-step until a solution is reached. One young lady I tutored named Glenda Lenahan, having made an F on her first calculus test, requested that I tutor her. When she took the second test she mad a 98. I jokingly asked her what she missed! May 27, 2011, my job was eliminated. I had been helping my son with his calculus and physics and found that I still remembered much of what I knew before. I love teaching in a hands on style in which the student not only has an algorithm of how to solve a specific problem, but has a thorough understanding of the concepts behind the algorithm. I enjoy having analogies or hands-on activities to demonstrate the concepts.
