I like to closely follow the curriculum which is being taught in school. If a student shows weakness in a certain area I like to stop and explain the concept fully to them. Then I provide them with many practice problems to help reinforce the fundamentals. I have had great success through this method. All of my students maintained a B+ or greater averga.

A Little Bit About Me...

For the past three years I have been a graduate student and instructor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics while also working part-time as a tutor. I was awarded a M.S., Applied Statistics in December 2007 and am now working toward a PhD. Before that, I was a Structured Learning Assistance Facilitator, Academic Support Center Tutor, and Large Class Assistance for the Mathematics Department while an Undergraduate Student at Ferris State University. Thus, my tutoring style depends almost entirely on the student as I have found that the most common reason a tutor is needed is that the student's learning style does not match with the teacher's teaching style. The one thing that I observed about the learning process, is that a person quickly grasps a concept if he/she is interested, or the topic is thoughtful and challenges the wit of a person and lastly, a person is very comfortable in learning through his/her friends. Nobody is stupid not to grasp a concept. It is the methodology, technique and feeling of comfort and interest, that is required. Hence I try to be affable and was more involved. A picturization or a real life example is more likely to fit in a person's mind. I used this technique and was very successful. With this regard, about 70% of my class scored 90% and above in their respective examinations.
