I have my degree in Elementary Education. I have had experience teaching large class sizes, but I have also spent a lot of time in small group reading instruction, and I have worked in small group math. I tutored a kindergarten girl to improve her phonemic awareness. I tutored Language Arts in elementary school after school hours. I worked at a day care for 5 years and helped students with their homework after school.
I believe in meeting students at their level of need, and mastering the skills needed in order to move onto higher level skills. I believe in teaching students how to develop their critical thinking skills, and teaching them the concepts needed to succeed in school and life.

After watching a documentary on teachers teaching in the inner city, I decided to switch my major from Pre-Law to Elementary Education. I've always loved learning and I wanted to be able to convey that same message to my students. In college, I majored in Elementary Education with a minor in Psy. of the Exceptional Child. This minor allowed me to study children who are gifted and children with special needs. I am currently working on a Masters in Special Education because I've learned an extensive amount of knowledge on this subject working for the Early Intervention program in my area.
I've always believed that children learn by doing. I would rather have my students get real hands-on experience because concepts can be better attained and understood if children get real experience with it. I also believe that children learn differently from one another and a teacher should be able ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching students through a variety of methods including traditional, hands on, and student specific. Each student learns differently and as a tutor I seek to tailor the education to the specific skills and needs of the specific student. I believe the goal of teaching is not only to learn specific content and skills, but to inspire students to love learning, and make learning fun and interactive. I hope to challenge the student in many ways, while helping them grow into their full potential.
I will be graduating in May 2011 with a Masters of Arts in Teaching for Special Education and will then obtain a teaching license for Special Education, K-12. During my Masters program I have taught students in large groups and small groups, performed assessments on students, and planned daily lesson plans and curriculum for students in a variety of subjects.
