For the past ten years, I have been teaching High School English. I have taught grades 9-12 in Literature, Composition and Standards of Learning in preparation for the state exams. I have taught inclusion classes involving students with numerous learning styles and have always met and exceeded the expectations of their parents. I am a very motivating person and tend to use humor as a method of teaching. I teach to and with the child and never down to him/her. I break large components into their simplest forms so that a child learns to take things one step at a time and not feel overwhelmed. I make the learning relevant to what the child is interested in or knows about so that he/she can be more engaged in the learning process. We set the goal-a reasonable one yet with high expectations and together we achieve it.

I am not a teacher however, I do have 3 children ages 10, 11 and 12. They are very smart and all have been on the Principals list for the past 3 years. I'm patient, kind and understanding that children often times get frustrated. I take education very seriously and I want everyone to succeed. My goal is to give back to the community and this is my way by educating our future leaders of America. As a recent MBA graduate, I would like to apply some of the things learned during my studies into helping others in their area of weakness. I understand that some students struggle in certain areas and I feel that I could be a great mentor. I tutored students in the past with the Big Brother Big Sister program. I believe in using multiple teaching strategies that encompass all the different learning curves. I believe in using many examples such as hands on activities, listening skill development, study skills techniques, think pair share, jig saw method, and the scientific approach. I also highly believe in positive reinforcement. Praising and encouraging a child for job well done, and supporting and scaffolding a child who needs encouragement, giving a child small successes can lead to bigger successes which will make a difference in a students academic life.
