A Little Bit About Me...

I have been an instructor in secondary educaiton teaching English and Speech. I have directed a leadership training program for eight years where I have instructed men and women. In a church setting, I have led high school age and college age students as well as adults in education settings. I mentor adults in a variety of life situations. When teaching on a secondary level, I also provided home tutoring for students who were unable to attend traditional classes.
I enjoy working and interacting with children and young people. I seek to provide an environment of encouragement and affirmation while expecting the student to participate as best they can. I recognize that learning styles vary, the temperament of a child varies, and the uniqueness of each person factors into how they learn. I teach through interaction, illustration and humor. I enjoy helping people learn English. Have a lot of understanding and compassion of what it means to learn a foreign language, as I have learned two. I have also lived as an expatriate in a foreign country, so I understand a lot of what the expatriate has to go through in a new land. I am used to teaching all types of learners, from slow to fast, and am able to adjust. I love to see people be encouraged and catch on, so I try to guide new concepts around mental roadblocks, and make it easy. I also love to learn new things, and new ways of doing things.
I was a Missionary in Panama for fourteen years. Learned Spanish through a two-year course in the country. As a missionary, I went on to teach Literacy and Bible to indigenous peoples there. After coming home stateside, although not certified, I earned extra income by giving classes in English to Hispanics in my home. I also t ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

During the past 5 years I have been a substitute teacher for Kentwood Public Schools and Excel Charter School in both elementary and high school classes. This experience has given me insight into what I feel is necessary for students to prepare for the future i.e college, skilled labor, technology etc. I have administered tests to evaluate pupil progress and issue reports to parents to discuss student progress and any problems that may exist.
Students that I have tutored/mentored have become very successful in their life after graduation from H.S./College. I know that if a child can read, and understand what they read, they can be successful in life. That is my first priorty in the education of a student.

I worked as a substitute teacher for a charter high school in St. Louis, MO directly out of undergrad. I taught most subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Algebra, History and Language Arts. I feel comfortable in my ability to teach most subjects and have no issue working in difficult classrooms as I have grown accustomed to such environments working in St. Louis.
Being no stranger to difficult classroom settings, I understand that ideal teaching conditions rarely exist. I enjoy to challenge of encouraging more distracted students to learn, and possess the compassion and patience to work with most students. If a teacher can earn a student's respect, which comes easier for a younger instructor such as myself, then positive reinforcement has a much greater impact on that student's motivation to learn. My experience teaching lends the skill to gain student's trust in confidence ... read more

As a graduate of a Big Ten school, and a current master’s level student, I have had many focuses in school that I can teach in the tutoring setting. I also currently work in education as a tutor and a substitute teacher, sometimes as a child care worker. Subjects: political science, biology, math through pre-calculus, accounting, English, computer technology, and a few more. My teaching experience and family have aided me in developing a teaching style that appeals to the four different types of student learners.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very patient person who has been called a natural teacher. I speak clearly and well. I can easily understand difficulties that students have with statistics and mathematics, and I am creative in devising appropriate techniques for mastering the subject matter. I very much enjoy teaching and my enthusiasm for my discipline is easily apparent.
I have taught math from grades 8 to 12 in a public high school. As a professor, I taught statistics to undergraduates in two private universities (Case Western Reserve University and Dartmouth) for a total of twelve years, and biostatistics at the graduate level at Harvard and Dartmouth for 17 years. I have tutored students privately in math, statistics, and computer science for over 30 years. A Little Bit About Me...

I really enjoy teaching and using a variety of educational methods to reach students. Some students respond much better to one-on-one teaching methods than they do in a larger class environment. I have had many successful tutoring experiences in the past with a variety of students (even those classified as having learning disabilities).
I currently work and teach at the International School of Tegucigalpa. I am a high school world history, psychology and comparative government. I have also taught economics at the high school level. I have tutored students in Language Arts at the high school and middle school letters. I am also literate in Spanish.

More About This Tutor...

In my career in automotive plastics, I coached or taught manufacturing principles to improve quality and efficiency. My demonstrated success is due in part to my efforts to educate and coach operators, engineers and managers to understand the basic principles of chemistry, math and engineering to buy into a logical course of action. I have also greatly enjoyed my voluntary participation as a youth football coach. I have coached 8-12 year olds the last 5 years. It is very fulfilling to demonstrate and coach new skills to children to develop an organized team.
I have a BS in chemical engineering. I have 13 years of applying engineering and project management principles in the automotive plastics industry. A key to my success is influencing people by explaining "why" and "how" something should be done to develop partnerships leading to increased cooperation and advocacy.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a simple teaching style. I teach according to the students needs. I try to get a sense of how the student learns best and let them direct me to what they need. I teach the student to teach themselves. I have had great sucess with my approach in the past, as this is a very self-rewarding experience for the student. I have often found that students soon catch-on and then begin to excell on their own. I have used these techniques to tutor algebra, geometry, algebra II and psychology, political science, anatomy and physiology. I love to see that look in a students' eyes when they "get it!"
I have obtained a bachelor degree in biopsychology from GVSU, which required me to learn many levels of science and math as well as anatomy and physiology. I have a deep understanding and appreciation for this field of study and have produced many reports and essays in the aforementi ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I most enjoy working with students on a one-to-one basis, or in a small group. I believe each student wants to achieve to the best of his or her ability. It is my opinion that the student does not fail -- rather, the school often fails the student. I will work with your student in a positive, encouraging atmostphere that will help them do their best.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education, Magna Cum Laude, from Western Michigan University, majoring in History and minoring in Political Science. In addition, I have earned twenty-seven credit hours in English composition and writing courses.
