My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : I am a certified Special Education Teacher K-12 in Florida. I work with students who have dyslexia and related learning disabilities on a daily basis. I myself have dyslexia, but when I was in school, the McKay scholarship wasn't around. I am certified in the LindaMood Belle LiPS method. This method has shown, through research, to be one of the best methods for teaching student with dyslexia how to read. This is actually how I learned how to read.

This depends on the student. I can teach verbally for students who are auditory learners, visually for student who are visual learners, and kinesthetically for students who are kinesthetic learners. I know that every student can learn, it just depends on finding the specific learning style for that student.
I have been working as a teacher for three years now. I enjoy working in a private school setting (two years experience) because I can devote more time to lesson planning, after school, and creating individualized/small group curriculum as there are less students in the private school I teach at. I am the Reading Specialist and I love my job. I myself had to learn to cope with dyslexia and ADHD. I know what students are going through because I have experienced it first hand. I teach a great deal of students who have learning disabilities as well as ASD. I create and implement ... read more

My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : Based on personal experience, not special training

I am a graduate of Tennessee Temple University, with experience tutoring at Tennessee Temple University, as well as University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, in various topics, including biodiversity, mathematics (up to pre-calculus), history, and American Sign Language. I continue to study in my personal time as many topics as possible, with the belief that a good tutor is firstly a good student.
I allow my teaching style to mold itself to each individual student, finding methods of communicating the information that best suit the learning style of my student. I favor a holistic approach to learning, believing that education should be of the whole person. If a student learns how a skill in his tutoring session can be applied in real life, then his or her perception of the subject may fundamentally improve.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and working with children. I am patient and easy going. I believe that all children can learn. I just have to find their learning style and what motivates them. I believe in using a mixed teaching method. I try to gear my teaching to how the child learns. I also believe in testing to see where the child is at so that I know where I can drive instruction. I will do my best to reach and make a difference in the life of a child. If you like what you've read please call me.
I have fifteen years experience in education. I am very much driven to see my students succeed. I have taught English from Kindergarten to Twelfth grade. I have also taught reading, math, science and social studies. I possess strong writing and communication skills. I excel in teaching. I expect nothing but the best from myself and my students.

I am the son of a teacher and have therefore had the value of a good education as a part of my world view. Both of my parents are also avid readers and critical thinkers and instilled the virtues of scholastic practice. Hence, I embarked on a collegiate career that included 12 years studying philosophy, history, religion, Irish Studies, literature, and finally education. Near the end of this time, I felt that the best use of my talents and experience would be in the classroom helping to build a better society through the young people who cross that threshold. I spent three years in Hawaii and the San Francisco Bay area teaching 7th and 8th grade learning handicapped, emotionally disturbed, and autistic students. through all of these years I have also tutored students ranging from inner city broken homes to Ivy League geared people.
I have found that the best way to teach is to be f ... read more

I would say that my teaching style varies depending onthe person I am teaching. There are several ways that people respond to in order for them to understand. I thik that everyone has a unique teaching style but still needs to be flexible in order to help the student understand.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always enjoyed working with people. This is why I chose psychology as my major in college. A short while after graduation I worked as a tutor. At The DePaul School of Northeast Florida, I was a part-time tutor. I was hired as a full time teacher at DePaul and worked there for six years. I then decided to take time off from teaching and spent three years working in social services. During my time in social services I worked with children and their families and continued tutoring students in the evenings. When I returned to teaching it was in the public school environment this time. I worked in a Middle School in Putnam County for three years. I have taught all subjects, as I worked with students with learning differences.
I believe all students can learn. I enjoy tutoring students one on one because it gives me an opportunity to discover their learning style. In doi ... read more

My style involved establishing a rapport with the studnet. By questioning their interests, concerns or passions it is possible to start focusing on the areas of academic concern. Modality assessment solves itself once the student feels comfortable enough to honestly answer questions regarding their academic needs. Once modality is defined a teaching plan can be formulated for that student's needs. By questioning, listening, and responding it is often possible to formulate an educational plan to address all academic areas for the student.
Having struggled academically with an undiagnosed ADD, I feel that I can empathize with the student frustrated and overwhelmed with large volumes of information and little time to rumiate and questions the material, much less to apply it. It is for this reason I pursued a degree in Specific Learning Diabilities in order to effective teach this ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been employed at Hope Haven Children’s Clinic as a reading tutor since 2007. I really enjoy working 1-on-1 with students to achieve their highest potential. One of my Hope Haven clients got the highest score in the school on Alternative Testing. It is wonderful to see the smiles on my parents’ faces. Also, I worked at an Elementary School tutoring FCAT Reading January through May 2008 and 2009.
I encourage my students to do their best. I praise them when they try to do the best they possibly can. Each student has different learning styles-visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. I like to give my students stickers and small prizes at the end of the session. They really enjoy that.
