K-12 and College Tutor

I have tutored K-12 students, as well as college students. I tutor math for K-12 students and business courses and math for college students. I have a 100% success rate for the students I have tutored in my eight years of tutoring since 2004. I am a caring individual and I do what ever it takes to make sure that my students get the concept they are learning, I will not move forward till they do.
I have the take a learning styles test in our very first meeting to see what style of learner the are. I then concentrate on teaching them by what learning style they are.

Math and Science Tutor

I'm currently finishing my junior year as a chemistry major at The University of Arkansas at Little Rock. My minor is biology. Chemistry is a demanding field that requires knowledge in science as well as mathematics. My degree requires several math classes along witn chemistry classes. Before I became a chemistry major I was a biology major. I've had courses in microbiology, zoology, and anatomy & physiology. I've worked as a teachers aide at my college and I've also tutored at my college. I've obtained a 3.7/4.0 GPA in my studies. Tutoring comes easy to me because I'm such a people's person. I get along great with kids especially. I'm a very vibrant and confident person which also helps my tutoring abilities. My plans after obtaining my bachelors degree in chemistry is to continue on to medical school and become a doctor.

I have been teaching at the college level since 2003. I have taught a variety of Mathematics and Statistics courses, at UALR, SEARK, University of South Carolina, and ITT tech. I have experience teaching all types of students from true Freshman to students coming back to college. I have done some high school level tutoring as well.
I like teaching by example, I feel that mathematics is a hands on subject, and you must try the problems to learn them.

I have worked at Pulaski Technical College for 3 years tutoring several math and Science Courses. I love tutoring and enjoy assisting others in the pursuit of knowledge. I worked as a teachers assistant at Pulaski technical college for the head of the Biology department. I held a class that was not required but encouraged by the school to help the students in the biology course prepare for test and answer questions regarding labs. This class took place after the regular scheduled class and lab each week. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA at Pulaski Technical College and will graduate from University of Arkansas at Little Rock in December of 2014.
I use a variety of teaching styles, until I find out a style that appeals to the student I am working with. Some students are visual, while others are kinesthetic like myself.

A Little Bit About Me...

In Fall 2016, I got my master's degree in mathematics from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Now I am studying my PhDs there. Having teaching assistantship, I have been teaching math since Spring 2015. I have a very good experience with teaching math, especially calculus. I am a patient tutor and have very good notes/feedbacks from my students with my teaching evaluations. This makes me more confident to be a good tutor. I have taught College Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, and Business Calculus. I like to help students to understand the math easily. I give them chance to think about a problem before providing answer, so they can understand more. I always give them a problem to solve by their own to make sure they understand and also to find misunderstanding points. I prefer to meet in public places, for example the library. I look forward to hearing from you and hel ... read more

I began my educational goals as a medical student, but later was advised that I should branch off into teaching and instructional applications by undergraduate and graduate professors.I'm so glad I took their advice because I really enjoy teaching and observing growth and development in my students. My teaching experience include 15.5 years of teaching biology, chemistry, environmental science, earth science, physical science, and algebra I and II. I'm also a math and science specialist for a Learning Center.
My first priorty to assist students in learning is developing a positive relationship with them, and then try to identify their strengths and weaknesses. From that point I can then begin to provide assistance and correction. Thanks to my honorable service in the U.S. Air Force, I've learned the invaluable benefits of hard-work, timeliness, respect, and discipline. I gained outstanding customer service skills from my experience as a vehicle maintenance journeyman and quality control technician. Prior to my service, I taught Calculus and Precalculus at the University of Georgia as well as graded, tutored, and supervised supplemental Calculus labs. I was responsible for over 100 students during my tenure as a graduate student, and was awarded the University's prestigious "Outstanding Student Teacher Of The Year" award in 2006.

I have earned my Master's and Bachelors and am currently seeking my PHD. I enjoy learning and sharing knowledge with others. My business degrees, and over 10 years of professional experience in the workforce, I am a confident instructor in Mathematics, English and Communications. I have utilized my minor in Interpersonal Communications by making sure I explain directions and lessons in which my students can understand.
My teaching style is whatever best fits the student. When working one on one with a student I practice a few different methods of teaching and whichever one they feel the most comfortable with and I receive the most attentiveness from, is the one that I continue to use. For example, some students prefer that you walk them through a lesson, go over a few practice problems and then let them work on assignments, knowing that they have you to assist them when needed ... read more

I believe we all learn in different ways, and I am always open minded in finding the best way for that student I am working with at that time. I believe everyone can achieve the highest of goals if we all strive for that success and find out a way to get there. However, most of all I hope I can leave a feeling of respect for the studies and for the people around us.
I have earned a BS in Chemistry and a minor in Math. I am currently working as a chemist, so I have kept up with all the new studies that are taking place right now. I have tutored all through High School, College and thereafter. I have a real passion for learning math, all sciences, and history. I hope I can pass this respect for these studies on to everyone I teach.

My philosophy is to first cut through the jargon than frequently confuses students. Often the underlying concept is easy to grasp, but has been made unnecessarily difficult because the text or teacher has used terminology that is confusing. This is particularly true in the field of mathematics. The writer, instructor or academic will begin by using a term which is ambiguous or has not been explained. The other principle that is important in mathematics is active participation by the student. To fully grasp the subject requires practice working problems. As the student solves more problems, he or she will gain more confidence and greater familiarity with the subject.
