My teaching experiences have had me in classrooms with age groups ranging from preschoolers to adults. I have been able to adapt my teaching style to suit every group and individual I have worked with, as I recognize the importance of an individualistic approach to education. Children learn in different way, and have different levels of enthusiasm for different subjects. I think that the way to encourage a child's success is to identify the ways in which the students learns best, and to understand what subjects/topics interest them. If you can relate to a child, your ability to motivate them and encourage them is amplified. I like to challenge students and to encourage them to think on their own. I believe positive reinforcement is important to children whose self-esteem might be low due to perceived lack of academic ability.
Through my studies in Environmental issues and Landscape design, I have taken many writing-intensive classes, science courses and geography courses. As a writer, I spent my early years refining my grammar skills and continued on this path in college, graduate school and in my professional life. I am a published poet and was accepted to attend the 2003 Breadloaf Young Writer's Conference. I I enjoy teaching students of all abilities and specialize in working with gifted and talented youth and youth who are interested in exploring the world in an experiential way.
