I have become very familiar with the differentiated instruction model of teaching students. Each child has an individual way of learning and it is up to the teacher to discover that way and lead or drive instruction with that in mind. I am willing to test and analize each child and see what is best for them as far as learning to read. If a child likes what they are doing they will do it more. I usually am very curious as to why a child hates to read or do math. If I look closely, the answer usually falls real close to the answer of there is a difficulty with understanding it and no one has figured out what that is yet. I work well with children of all ages and am considerably patient, easygoing, although stern as well with my students. My teaching style consists of visual illustrations mixed with a lecture or teaching session. Through my experiences at USD I have determined that the amalgamation of these two styles produce more stimulating teachings as well as information retention being maximized as well. During my time at the University of Missouri-Columbia, I earned two degrees: a BA in Philosophy and a BA in Theater. I also took many writing classes, focusing on different types of creative writing, from fiction to poetry to playwrighting. I have volunteered for both summer camps (at local science museum) and at vacation bible school programs.
