I served in the Straight Up AmeriCorps as a member for two years, specializing in tutoring and mentoring in a high school setting. I was responsible for teaching and leading programs for students as well as organizing events. Once completed, I was hired by a local non-profit to administer services and manage a Family Literacy program for 20 families. My duties included direct mentoring and tutoring, as well as identifying and implementing learning programs based on each individuals needs. Since then, I have also started my own Event Planning business which showcases my customer service and strong oral, written, and time management skills.

I've always loved to read, I inhereited it from my father who got it from his father. I'm an avid writer as well. I really feel I can help youth and young adults learn to read. Currently I work with individuals who have disabilities to find and maintain work. Every one can learn. Sometimes an individual learns in their own unique style and finding that style is the key to teaching them. The best way to teach someone is to guide them when they come to a road block, rather than to give them the answer. The amount of pride and prestige that comes from having figured out a problem on their own is the most important thing.

I recently graduated in Economics from Bishop's University. In my final year at Bishop's, I taught a couple tutorials to assist students in lower level economics courses. In addition, I succeeded quite well in 4 mathematical courses in my final year, averaging 26% above the class average (in Matrix Algebra, Linear Algebra, Ordinary Differential Equations and Advanced Calculus II). I think Math is the most beautiful subject and the highest form of human expression. A lot of times people are turned away from it due to a high school math experience that they perceive as dry and boring. When I tell people I love math, I too often hear "well, better you than me!" I think part of the high school math experience should include turning students on to mathematical discovery. Confronting confusion and working through to develop an understanding that feels personal and thorough.
