Have years of experience teaching my siblings their course work including math(algebra + geometry), physics, chemistry, biology. To stimulate mind often provided puzzles; crosswords and scrabble to increase vocabulary. Worked on a variety of course related projects in school as well as college. Mostly a self taught learner, and taught most of my friends before the exams during college on all subjects. Encourage self learning as stimulation of mind is utmost necessary.

Tristan N. - Gainesville, FL 32608 (29.5 mi) - GRE Tutor - $37.50/hr.
Just before graduating college, I heard about the Graduate Record Examination. The GRE is essentially a large-scale SAT that takes a more comprehensive look at the student's understanding of math and language. In short, is the academic "follow up" exam to the SAT.
I studied hard for the GRE, and had help from a tutor who showed me (more than anything else) what to expect. I barely studied the material that would be on the exam, and instead focused on the strategies that helped me maximize my time and minimize incorrect answers. However, both facets of this exam are important to practice in, and as such I offer my expertise on the matter.
On my first attempt at the exam, I scored well within the top quartile of all test-takers nationwide. Greetings one and all!
My name is Tristan, and I am a recent graduate of the University of Florida's College of Engineering as of August 2012.

In 1976 I left the blue-collar world and returned to college, strongly motivated to learn. In 1980 I acquired a BA in Geography (3.81 gpa in my major, 3.53 overall), with a minor degree in Environmental Geology (3.6 gpa). During my last three years of undergraduate study I was the departmental tutor in Physical, Cultural and Economic Geography. Awarded a teaching assistantship at the University of Maryland Graduate School (College Park) in 1980, I taught undergraduate courses in Geography for two years. In 1990 I was a substitute teacher (grades 7-9) for the NYC Board of Education. For the last ten years I have successfully worked with students on a variety of undergraduate and graduate-level projects in many subjects, including Political Science, Psychology, and Education. I am confident that with my background I will be able to successfully tutor students in many subjects, including ba

In terms of teaching style, I believe that different students require different teaching styles and techniques and I attempt to vary and utilize those based upon the specific needs of the student. As a more specific comment related to the teaching of Accounting/Finance, I believe that modeling Accounting techniques works best with the majority of students and that the adage "practice makes perfect" is particularly applicable in the Accounting arena. I have encountered the term "demonstrator/personal model" within the framework of teaching styles and I believe that is a good description of my style. For most of my professional career, I was a senior financial administrator in the non-profit sector. After receiving my Doctorate in 2002, I moved from an Administrative position to a Faculty position at the University of Massachusetts. For the past 8 years, I have worked as a professor of

I believe with the right supports all children can learn. I have tutored students with special needs. My goal is to help the child build on their strengths and believe they can improve on their weaknesses. My teaching style is to set objectives that challenge students and support them by building on what they already know. I am extremely patient and professional and well liked by my students. With a degree in Special Education and a Masters in Education I have learned about how children learn best. I have a Florida Teacher's License for teaching ESE (Exceptional Students Education), Spanish, Elementary Education, and other subjects. I taught in the Ocala public school system. I have terrific math skills and have taught all core courses to ESE students. I have helped older students prepare for their GED exam as well. Currently I teach Spanish online.

I am a very enthusiastic tutor and, as I stated in the previous section, believe teaching in such a way that the student gains a true mastery of the given subject. In a sense, I believe in each student understanding a particular concept in their own unique way that is consistent with their unique thinking processes. I strive to do this by relating a given concept analogously to something the student already fundamentally understands. I also create new problems to solve that probe the students’ progress and comprehension. I try to make these problems as realistic as possible to make them interesting to the student. Being a Ph.D. candidate and appointed research assistant, I very much realize the importance of true comprehension of a subject. Not only do I hold two B.S. degrees in Applied Mathematics and Chemical Engineering but I also carry credits to the equivalent of a Non-Thesis M

When I can help other students understand a concept that was once very confusing for them, I feel very satisfied. I am very flexible in my teaching methods. Primarily, I like to understand the learning styles of my student so I know what will best work for them. I will do whatever it takes to make sure the student understands the concept and succeeds. I also like to encourage students by implementing different incentive programs; this will motivate them to continue working hard. I am extremely confident that I will be able to teach my students successfully in a fun and engaging manner. Currently, I am a graduate student in the Counselor Education Department at the University of Florida. I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Psychology and a Minor in Spanish from the University of Florida in May 2007. While I was earning my Bachelors’ degree I was a tutor for Upward Bound. I would like to pass on my dedication to learning and the understanding of cultural patterns to students and following them from their first encounters with social and cultural trends through the essays they ultimately produce as they learn how to think critically about these trends.
I would bring to this work both preparation and experience, not only in my own skills as a writer and researcher but also in the teaching of subjects concerning social culture. Having begun my teaching career in the University of Colorado at Boulder, I am interested in continuing my work in the educational world, as I enjoy working with and teaching students because of the rewards I’ve found there. I am interested in pursuing an academic career as a teacher and am eager to continue this path. I am able to teach many levels and pride myself on encouraging students to open up their own critical thinking sk

First,I show my students I deeply care how they feel about learning. I help them identify their blocks to learning and success and help put them at ease. I know how to adapt my style to the particular age I am working with. I am very patient. I know proven strategies to help students master basic skills and more complex skills, using their style of learning. I will recognize pretty early on their zone of mastery, and capacity to cope, so they don't get too frustrated or too bored. I will use whatever modality I can find (creatively and safely) to help bring understanding. I am a cheerleader and am excited when students gain mastery of a topic that at first seemed overwhelming. I have worked with children and youth pre-school - 12th grade since 1982. I have done some literacy instruction with adults. I have been recognized as an outstanding mentor to disadvantaged youth. As an undergraduate in Chemical engineering, I have always been known to strive to be the best that I can be. I have my BS in Chemical Engineering which displays my knowledge of both science and math. I was also a graduate student in pharmaceutical sciences in Colorado and helped to write scientific grant proposals. This experience shows my working knowledge of both science and english, as well. I now work as a Clinical Research Coordinator showcasing my multi-tasking abilities. For several years, off and on, I have tutored children in math, english and sciences. I worked for Advanced Learning Centers to tutor both high school and middle school students in math. When no new math topics are of any trouble, I also aided them in working with both science and english.During my term in Colorado, I also tutored two girls for a year and half in math and english. I grew quite attached to them an

When I begin tutoring a new student, my first objective is for us to get to know each other. The student will not be able to receive very much from me until he/she is comfortable with me. Once they feel that I care, they open up and the learning really begins! When I really get a feel for the personality and whatever particular challenges are unique for this person in this class, I am able to determine the best way to communicate the subject and improve the skills. I like to think outside the box to find the best way for that student to have that "got it" moment! Literally all my life I have been asked by students, parents and teachers to help students who were having trouble. I get tremendous fulfillment from watching someone who has been frustrated finally "get it." In addition to teaching music lessons, tutoring all subjects, and homeschooling my own two children, I have worked for th

Sergio I L - Gainesville, FL 32608 (32.7 mi) - GRE Tutor - $36.50/hr.
A BA and an MA in French provide me with the knowledge. Experience as a former teaching assistant and as a current online tutor give me the skills necessary to teach. Writing numerous papers in both French and English taught me the mechanics involved in language. I use all of these insights to enrich students' prospective experiences. In addition to reading and writing, I also tutor math up to Algebra II. Although schooled in the Communicative Method in second language acquisition, my teaching styles are varied, fluid and dependent upon the individual student and subject. Along with patience, understanding will create an environment conducive to learning.

Working with drop-out prevention students inspired me and showed me that I have a talent for sharing my knowledge in a way that is intelligible and absorbable, as well as transcendable beyond the average classroom environment. I prefer to educate by asking my pupils leading questions that encourage them to use their own internal skills to arrive at an answer, rather than being "spoon fed" or otherwise assisted. My attitude is professional but caring, and I feel that I'm able to relate to children and teens in a manner that inspires both respect and good work output. I offer verbal praise and similar positive reinforcement to help facilitate continued beneficial results. I have a BA in Math and a love of logic. When I completed my degree, I was only a few courses shy of a second BA in philosophy. My other loves are spelling, grammar, poetry, literature, mind-activating games and puzz

One of my favorite past-times is teaching and mentoring. I have helped my youger siblings and cousins broaden their skills in sciences and math. I strive to bring out the best in people when I teach them by using everyday activities and examples that they can easily relate to. I find all children are capable when the right methods and approaches are used in teaching them. Giving them homework and assignments to do on their own after classes helps them to assimilate what they have been taught. In my first semester of graduate school, I was a teaching assistant in a 3000-level course with about 20 students. I found the class very exciting as the students where very diligent and always did their pre-lab before each class, making the class easier for them to understand. I have tutored privately at various times helping high school students prepare for SAT and GRE math sections, having scored
