Eager to help children with problems at school.

I am still currently in High School but I have a flexible schedule since I go to Online School. I am eager to help children learn and need money as I make my way through High School. I enjoy working with kids and helping them through school because I experienced those exact same problems through school without help.
This would depend on the child's learning style and I would assess the situation from their.

A Little Bit About Me...

Experienced as an instructor teaching CPR, First Aid, swimming, and lifeguarding courses to individuals or classes of up to 30 students. Proficient in math, science, and test taking skills. I truly enjoy teaching others, as I have worked as a mentor in engineering camps and in the freshman dormitories at Arizona State University, as well as worked as a residenial assistant in the freshman dormitories. I like helping students understand larger concepts in a simpler way using tricks I have found helpful, connecting the big picture at the end. I don't believe that anything is too difficult, it may just need to be broken down and approached differently.

Let's learn academics together.

I aim to work with people, by basically a read of the person and then testing them if I need more information. This then gives me the opportunity to relate to them on the many levels an effective teacher has to relate to make the child successful. The idea is to figure out what works on a given student and take their strengths and develop them. This is best done on a case by case basis and focusing in on improvising to cater the lesson to their desires. "If you're not on your toes here, you're not doing it right" is my motto.
I have worked hard at learning German. Although all I speak right now fluently is German and English, I am working on French as well. Having this cornerstone in languages is very important to success as a tutor, because unless you can explain things, you're unable to succeed. I also think in a very step-by-step process, and found that this brought me ac ... read more

10 years experience teaching chemistry!

Lots of different ways to approach the problem. If you don't understand it one way, I can usually help you attack the problem from a "different direction."
I have 10 years of experience teaching chemistry labs: general chemistry and organic chemistry. I also have 10 years of experience tutoring chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry at the college level. I enjoy helping people learn. I've often had students say something like, "Oh! I finally understand. My lecture professor taught me this, but I didn't understand it until now!"

My comments on tutoring Pre-Algebra : Tutored at JC

I use the Socratic method, meeting the students where they are, and using gentle questioning to build on that base. I start with the assumption that all children are gifted learners, and communicate that belief to them. It is essential to create a base of success upon which to build future success. I also spend time finding something to like deeply about each child; and discovering what the child is interested in. When an adult takes an interest in the child's world, and shares that interest in a positive reinforcing manner, it opens to door to learning.
I have taught internship classes and tutored statistics at the University level. I have tutored mathematics from elementary to calculus at a junior college. Mathematics can be fun,,, REALLY

Teaching Style : Teaching style has to adjust to student. I know the subject, I must know how the student learns and adapt my teaching to that.

I love being creative and finding ways to help others learn. I am great with children, and believe that patience and encouragement can give them confidence to excel at anything they choose. I am very easy to get along with. I am very patient and understanding. Everyone has different strengths in learning, and everyone has different learning styles. A good educator needs to be aware of the needs of the individual, and teach them in styles that allow them to process and retain information. I love to see those I tutor light up when they finally understand something. I enjoy making a difference to those I teach and watching them succeed.

While attending law school, I spent 2 full academic years tutoring first year law students. I tutored property and constitutional law. It was through tutoring that I was able to help several students improve their grades, both through emotional support and exceptional knowledge in the subjects. I enjoy learning new things and sharing that knowledge with others.
I believe that teaching through lecture and hands-on activities is the most effective. A student that is capable of "teaching" the teacher a lesson and explaining the subject in their own words will have a greater understanding of the subject. When I teach and tutor I explain to the student the topic in my words, and then continue to ask for feedback until the student is capable of explaining the lesson in their own words.

I once had a Chemistry professor whose encouragement and unique enjoyment of Chemistry inspired and allowed me to understand Chemistry like I never had before. When tutoring I strive to emulate this professor. Tutoring is wonderful because you get to know how an individual learns best and can help them accordingly. Allowing the student the opportunity to analyze a problem and determine their own strategy is very important. I am there to provide the students with guidance and suggestions that will help direct them to the correct answer and allow them to figure out their own problem solving methods. I am also there to provide the student with structured, specific guidance and to help them learn and understand the materials any way I can.
