I have always had a love for math and science. I was able to challenge and develop my problem solving skills in achieving a Masters Degree in Architecture. I have a also received a Minor in Business. My ability to quickly understand and apply math and sciences led me to help my peers in study groups to understand materials and pass tests. I was able to tutor in physics and accounting. Over the last year I have also had the opportunity to help my little sister, who is literature oriented, to pass sophomore algebra. I have always pushed myself towards excellence. I believe that teaching through lecture and hands-on activities is the most effective. A student that is capable of "teaching" the teacher a lesson and explaining the subject in their own words will have a greater understanding of the subject. When I teach and tutor I explain to the student the topic in my words, and then continue to ask for feedback until the student is capable of explaining the lesson in their own words.
While attending law school, I spent 2 full academic years tutoring first year law students. I tutored property and constitutional law. It was through tutoring that I was able to help several students improve their grades, both through emotional support and exceptional knowledge in the subjects. I enjoy learning new things and sharing that knowledge with others.

I love teaching and have been homeschooling my own three children for the past 2 years. It is a great feeling when something “clicks” and a student understands a complex subject. Having someone who can patiently explain the “big picture” behind the topic can make all the difference. My approach is to emphasis a “top down” understanding. Once a student understands the “why” of a problem, they can move forward to internalize it and conquer any question they might encounter in the future.

A Little Bit About Me...

I started as an Adjunct Instructor at ISU for the Geomatics Engineering program for the 2007-2008 school year. Prepare for class setup the curriculum, homework, grading and test for 10-12 students. I went to ITT Technical Institute following that and was offered to Chair School of Drafting & Design. I taught and ran the department for 2 years. I was in charge of 4-10 teachers and 170+ students.
I believe in identifying the learning style of the student which can take some time with some. Are they a visual learner I draw pictures, maps, charts and video; if an audio learner tapes, lecture, youtube, video, etc,.. and if a kinesthetic learner then they need the hands on experience to develop the learning that is needed, so then standing back to guide the thought process without doing it for them.

Although I am patient with the student, I am persistent in searching for new ways to present material so that the student can relate to it. I have a unique approach to teaching because my background is both analytical (numbers and science) and imaginative (theater and literature). While classroom training is my forte, I also have a solid background in teaching online. This combination is particularly useful since no two children learn in the same way. I do not believe any student is dumb. If he or she has struggled picking up a concept, it is more likely because the right method of teaching has not yet been explored.
