I have taught as a tutor in High School, and college. I also taught in the adult education system of Fairborn, Ohio. I have acted as a group home monitor for MR/DD adults. I am presently tutoring a young adult in cost control and algebra.
I tailor my teaching style to the student. I first evaluate where the student is by building rapport, discussing the problem he/she is having, talking to the teacher, and talking to the parents. I then begin focusing on the area where the student is having difficulties. It may be that the student requires help with homework as well as review of fundamentals. I attended National University and earned a teaching certificate. I worked in a junior college in San Diego as a tutor in math, English, reading, and social studies. I went on to work in the San Diego Unified School district as a teacher's aide and as a substitute teacher. I then accepted a position at the world famous Scripps Research Institute. Although difficulty with math is a common with todays students I am convinced it is largely due to a lack of confidence. In addition to aiding a students learning process I believe it is important to be a coach as well, encouraging the student to believe in the potential that lies within most all students. I have found most students can and do perform better as they start believing in themselves. I believe in giving the students study hints and tools for preparing for exams.
