More About This Tutor...

Have tutored peers and younger students starting in high school and continuing throughout my undergraduate. Fundamental understanding is what is most important. Just knowing which equation to use for a certain type of problem will not help a student succeed in future courses. Students should also know that repetition is the best way to master a skill.

Children are our heritage. Children have an innate desire to learn and I believe that with proper guidance, each child can be successful. Education is a very high priority in our family and we encourage others to further their education, whether it involves college or study on one's own, in order to better themselves.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is one of friendly leadership. Working through problems or lessons with the student by leading them through it, then working it with them side by side while explaining the details helps them achieve the accomplishment of learning without making them feel as if they were just instructed how to do it. Helping a student learn is more than just teaching them a lesson in math, science, or English; it’s about being someone that they can look up to as a role model, being someone that they can learn from in more than just an academic manner, and being someone who is there for them when they need something. Personally, I think students of all ages and academic levels need to be coached and pushed to achieve their full potential.
During college, I changed my major several times, taking numerous classes for each one to determine what I wanted to do with my life. I experi ... read more

I taught everything from Kindergarden to High School. I was a couple of teacher's personal sub. I also was involved with the program that dealt with students with developmental disabilites. More About This Tutor...

My undergraduate degree is in French however I took extensive coursework in mathematics and chemistry and have a good understanding of all the sciences. During my undergraduate studies, I tutored other students in science courses and lead a laboratory course. These were rewarding experiences as I watched my peers learn and thrive in academics. While working toward my Masters in Environmental Science I was able to teach the laboratory portion of an introductory course for two years. This allowed me to develop lesson plans, tests and quizzes and lab activities. I was also able to tutor two very different high school students in French, algebra and geometry, tutoring one-on-one and learning the challenges and rewards of diverse students.
I believe the greatest thing about knowledge is the ability to share it. I love to learn, but that is only the first step. The true reward comes in b ... read more

As a Purdue graduate and future Indiana University medical school student, I have always and will continue to be a motivated and high-achieving student. I recently earned a BS in Biology, with extensive knowledge in all basic sciences and math. I genuinely love learning and have taken a variety of courses beyond my required course load in such subjects as psychology, political science and social work. During the past five years I have tutored high school and college-age students in English Composition, Math, Biology and Chemistry. I have taken four semesters of German throughout high school and college, so I am qualified to assist with basic German. I also have experience working with younger students as a camp counselor.
I love teaching and find that I, as well as my students, learn by teaching and interactively asking questions and seeking answers together. I believe that a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My volunteering began in 1993 when I was an officer at the Indiana University Bloomington chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the honorary accounting society. I still remember going to the Boys and Girls Club to tutor each week. When I got the opportunity to work with the Junior Achievement organization while working in Butler, I jumped for joy. For 8 years I was a volunteer teacher for all three schools (elementary, middle, and high). My company closed down and I had to leave the Eastside JA board and the opportunity to help children learn. I am a heavy user of Excel in job and am considered very skilled at knowing the shortcuts and how to manage information in spreadsheets.
My second career choice was education, but I went with accounting instead. I have always found good luck with explaining how to do something by using examples. As I continue further in my career, this comes easi ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I achieved my BS in 3.5 years with certifications in Kindergarten and English for secondary education. I have employed multiple skills to teach many disciplines to students. My interest in Science and Technology encouraged not only students to learn, but other teachers to request my expertise. I have tutored many students, generally those needing special services, but I have also created strategies for parents and challenging work for more gifted students.
No person learns identically to anyone else, therefore I approach pupils from their learning styles. I engage them, finding out what methods have worked and get a quick generalized understanding of how they learn. I challenge students to their frustration level (Piaget) and modify the situation to ensure success with clear possibilities to expand and learn more and in different ways. Most of the teaching I do involves heari ... read more

I am a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Engineering. Not only have I excelled in math and science throughout the educational process, I also did very well in all other subjects, never receiving less than a 'B' letter grade in any class. More importantly, however, I enjoy passing on to others the knowledge that I have gained. I have had the privilege of tutoring students in Physics, Chemistry, and all levels of mathematics up to Trigonometry. In addition to tutoring other students, I have also had great success tutoring 4 of my own children in a variety of subjects.
I love teaching and working with children of all ages. I believe all children can learn, but each in different ways. I would love to be a part of your child's academic success.
