My comments on tutoring Life Science : My main focus in Biology was life sciences, including ecology, but also plants and animals.

I received my B.S. degree in Biology, and am knowledgeable about many sub-disciplines, including life sciences (plants/animals), genetics, evolution, and anatomy. I am generally able to explain difficult biological concepts in a more conversational way. I've worked with high school youth in the past (approx. 2 years experience) in a crew structure teaching job skills (resume writing, interviewing, etc.) and basic biological/ecological principles. I have worked with family and friends to teach basic personal finance and resume-writing tips to help them achieve great results. I am primarily an environmental consultant, and I routinely use MS Office programs to analyze, organize, and present data in easy-to-understand ways. I've taught several co-workers, family members, and friends how to use these programs effectively, and shown them helpful tips to make it easier.

My comments on tutoring Life Science : As a tutor in the college-prep after-school program Upward Bound,I helped students understand Chemistry concepts for 7 years, and know where the basic pitfalls are. I have also taught Plant Science at the college level

I start by giving a diagnostic test to assess each student's proficiency in the basics of Arithmetic and Algebra: fractions, decimals, percentages and the interconversion between them, and the rules of working with signed numbers. This approach stems from the notion that without these basics, Math is an uphill climb for most students. I place more emphasis on full work than answers.
I taught college-level Plant Science for 14 years. I spent 7 years as a tutor of Math and Science at the college-prep after-school program Upward bound, helping students with homework and preparing them for the ACT and the SAT. I am currently employed as a Math tutor at a local technical college where I help students with Basic Math, Intro Algebra,Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Trig and Elementary Statistics.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that it is possible for all children to have success. I am a firm believer in celebrating even small successes. My approach to working with children is to use materials that interest and relate to the child. I believe that this helps each child realize the importance of their learning. I use hands-on, hearts-on, minds-on activities whenever possible so that children internalize what they are learning. I let every child I work with know that I believe in them and let them know that they can achieve whatever they set their mind to. I then make it my job to plan learning activities to accomplish the goal of the child.
I have worked most of my life to become an elementary teacher. I have known since I was young that teaching young people was what I wanted to do. I earned a BS in elementary education, with a minor in math. Since graduating and becoming a teacher, I h ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As cliché as this sounds - my favorite part of teaching is the satisfaction of knowing I made a difference. I have interacted with individuals across countless backgrounds and understand the idea of each student needing to hear things in their own terms. The simple concept penetrates through my patient teaching style. Some of my favorite ways to connect with students is to create simple analogies using subjects which interest them. My overall personable nature makes it easy for students to talk to me and I can always be counted on for advice (whether it be academic or otherwise).
My teaching experience began during high school when I would help out at my church's Sunday School providing remedial services like handing out papers. Since then I have earned a bachelor's degree in finance and economics with ambitions to earn a PhD. During my undergraduate experience I tutored begi ... read more

I recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin River Falls with a BS in Marketing Communications. A Little Bit About Me...

During the last three years, I have been employed full time teaching in the areas of Human anatomy and physiology, Microbiology, and Biology for a technical college in Wisconsin. My tenure at this college has prepared me for teaching a wide variety of student demographics as well as working in different educational environments (e.g., traditional, online, hybrid). Several years ago, I was employed as a tutor for a community college in Canada in Math, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
My teaching style involves incorporating a wide variety of strategies that reach out to different learning styles such as visual, verbal, tactile, and auditory. I am very comfortable working with young adults at the high school and college levels. Some of the strategies I continue to use include collaborative activities, small group discussions, large group discussions, and case studies. In additio ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

While in college I worked a number of years as an after school program classroom lead for two different school districts in the twin cities area. Additionally, during my years of Post College I have worked directly as a youth instructor in a number of scenarios. I have experience teaching Genetics, Horse Anatomy and Physiology, Equine Nutrition, and Natural and Biological Sciences.
I have a natural talent for being a leader/teacher and have been complimented on my ability to reach out to youth. I like to teach through “hands on” approach, practice and problem solving. I love to see the children’s progress through time and their feeling of confidence when they have mastered a skill your teaching.

A Little Bit About Me...

When in undergraduate school for physics I acted as a tutor for portions of my junior and senior years. I tutored students in general physics I & II, as well as calculus I & II. I would work with a particular student on a one on one basis to address specific questions that they might have on the subject matter.
I very much enjoy education and working with children/young adults. Teaching is something that can and should be performed in different ways depending on the student. Everybody has their own unique learning style. I believe in visual learning and working through example problems to help develop better understanding. I feel that through a hands on approach students can and will meet their potential.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a tutor, I primarily held 1 on 1 appointments several days a week. I primarily tutored in all levels of chemistry from general to biochem and I also tutored in accounting due to the introductory course that I had. My work as a supplemental instructor was by far the most rewarding. My job was to attend the Nursing Chemistry lectures and to take notes and create my own worksheets based on the material. I then conducted 2 review sessions per week to help the students master the material.
I prefer an interactive teaching style where the student determines how much they get out of it. I generally will not give a student an answer but will help them along until they can answer the question for themselves, thus making them more independent learners.
