When I was in school, I could always understand or figure out what the teacher was trying to get across. Some students, however, didn’t always understand what was being explained. I was the kid who would rephrase the teacher’s remarks and explain it again in a way that the other students could understand. Not all students understand things in the same way. I try to find a way to explain things so the material is more interesting and less frustrating than it is when the teacher explains it. I love the “ah-hah moments” when you realize the student just got it. I am easy going; and kids have an easy time talking with me.

Throughout my educational years, I have greatly appreciated the opportunity to tutor a variety of students in various fields. As an undergraduate, I tutored other college students in science courses, including biology and chemistry, in a one-on-one or group setting. I am fresh out of college and have much of the information fresh on my mind. I would particularly enjoy working with students in math and science, as I was a biology major with a chemistry minor. Since graduating from University of Modena (Italy) with a BS in Biology, and during my Ph.D at University of Siena (Italy) I have been developing my career in the research field. I have gained superior scientific knowledge from working at Italian National Institute of Health during four years of my PhD program in the field of developmental biology, publishing many scientific papers during that time. I try to present a concept or fact in several different ways so that I can resonate with the students thinking style. I have been told that I am a very good communicator and educator and can make concepts that seem complicated look much simpler and more comprehendible. If you've ever looked at the Khan Academy website, were Sal Khan makes little You Tube videos on all sorts of math and science topics, you will see a very similar method to how I educate .

Every student learns differently but they all respond to a few tricks I've learned. Positive feedback helps all student gain confidence and reduce their frustration while learning. Examples are key to almost every tutoring session, the trick is knowing what example to use. Leading the student to find the answer themself builds their confidence and increases understanding. Finally, confidence combined with a positive attitude will give the student faith in you. So even if they do manage to get frustrated, they trust you to help them through it.
