A Little Bit About Me...

Although I have no formal teaching experience, I do have been developing my teaching style for many years while I worked with the developmentally disabled. I learned to identify a teachable moment, which is a time at which the student would be most receptive to learning. As a tutor, I would create those moments and boost confidence by encouraging the student to explore the subject in the way that is most interesting to them. When a child or student asks a question, I will guide them through a thought process so they can come up with the answer themselves.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a minor in journalism from Oswego State University. I like to use different methods to help students learn. I am a hands-on teacher who believes in having students discover their own successful learning styles. Students learn the best by doing, so, I try to let them figure things out while guiding them through instead of having them memorize rote information. Learning becomes permanent only when it is understood. I am a firm believer in Life-Long Learning.
I have been an educator for 24 years. I have never thought about doing anything else because I love teaching. I've been told that I have a way with students that makes them feel comfortable and confident. I have taught everything from K thru 8th grade and I esp. love middle school.
