A Little Bit About Me...

I am a retired secondary educator and have taught the following subjects:Drama, Speech, English, T.V.Broadcasting, Debate, Musical Theater. I have also been an adjunct instructor for Salt Lake Community where I taught courses in Theater, and Public Speaking. At Eagle Gate College I have taught courses in Ethics and Communications. At Utah State University I am teaching courses in Creative Arts, Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communications, and Film.
Teaching is my passion. I find education the most essential components of our society. We must educate the young to create a better future and the old to prduce well rounded citizens who will make positive contributions to our society. It is only through education can we overcome social ills. Education is the key to success.

I am often described as laid back. I focus on the key components of learning and students are surprised when they understand more than they thought that they did. With music, I enjoy beginners equally as well as more accomplished students. I also enjoy a good joke now and then.
In public schools, I have taught all grades 7-12. I have taught high school physics, high school chemistry, high school biology, 7th grade science. A Little Bit About Me...

I absolutely love reading and enjoy working with children. I take great pride in helping a child who is struggling with reading to see them improve daily. I am very patient and kind. I think that a child really thrives with the one on one interaction and I believe that all children want to succeed, though they all learn differently. I think treating each child with respect and dignity is very important.
I have earned a paraprofessional certification through the Box Elder School District. I have extensive training through Americorps. I have successfully developed a reading program for Adele C. Young Intermediate School ages 6th and 7th grade. I have had the privilege of spending many hours with struggling readers helping to build their reading levels and comprehension skills. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that children are born smart. Some of them have special learning challenges and some have been taught to believe that they are not smart. By treating children as though they are intelligent and providing encouragement and learning opportunities, I have seen children grow and progress in almost astonishing ways. The sparkle in a child's eyes when they finally "get it" is the best paycheck.
After finishing my Masters Degree in Education I taught one year in a private school then opened my own business tutoring primarily homeschool students during the school year. The students I have worked with are primarily ages 11-18, but my experience with my own children includes the primary grades. I have tutored most subjects including reading, writing, science, history and math (through algebra).
