A Little Bit About Me...

I would say that my teaching style is very interactive. Anyone can give instructions but I love feedback from a one on one situation as well as a group environment. I base alot of my instruction on analogies; when a person can relate an experience or another word to a term being tought, their understanding is broadened and 99% of the time embedded in the longterm memory. That to me is not only developing the ability to draw on a built up knowledge base, but also broadens ones ability to convey what has been learned.
I have always wanted to teach. When I was a child I would round up the kids in my neighborhood and make them do lessons that I created. I do remember they did not like that. A wise man once said; to learn, read; to know, write. But to master, teach. Teach is one of those nifty reflexive verbs where the teacher and pupil are interchangeable. If both are patient, resourceful, imaginative and caring the learning becomes less process and more flow. This is always my goal in teaching: creating a positive and flexible environment for all the principles involved. And of course, frequently there must be laughter.
I graduated from St. Lawrence University, a liberal arts foundation of learning that has served me judiciously on the metaphorical road of life. A Little Bit About Me...

As I mentioned in the above paragraph, I meet the child where they are in their learning style. I can adapt to how they learn best and then use different activities and tools to again, "drive home" the concept of what the child may be struggling with. I love teaching anything!
When I graduated with my Bachelor of Science degree in 2002, I accepted a job at a small school in upstate NY that needed a PE teacher. I quickly learned to just relax and "go with the flow" of how the students learned the material and what kind of different activities that we could do to "drive home" the concept of what we were studying. I also learned to be very flexible. I wore many many different hats that first year of teaching which has given me to experience I needed in my recent years of teaching. I am passionate about sports, athletics, history and teaching as a whole!
