A Little Bit About Me...

My experience with tutoring ranges from being tutored in middle school at Sylvan Learning Center (due to not being challenged enough in my private school classroom) to tutoring fellow classmates and my friends' younger siblings in a range of subjects during high school and college. I have extensive experience instructing and guiding 12 through 17 year olds from working as a camp counselor for three consecutive summers. The nature of my double major in religion and philosophy from Calvin College dictated that the bulk of my coursework focused on abstract thinking, theoretical reasoning, and argumentative essay writing. The liberal arts collegiate curriculum I pursued included calculus and metaphysics among other challenging and broadening courses. I earned a BA in Music from the University of California, Los Angeles where I also completed a post-graduate year required for a California life-time teaching credential. I am an experienced classroom teacher (3rd/4th LA City Schools and Casablanca, Morocco) as well as music specialist (LA City Schools) and piano teacher (California/Colorado). I also have solid work experience as an administrative assistant with Hewlett-Packard and later as an Information Technology II employee at Colorado State University. During my three years of formal tutoring, I was able to change my tutoring styles to fit the needs of the student. Everyone learns differently and it is important to realize and adjust my tutoring accordingly.
During the last three years of my undergraduate college career, I was a Mathematics tutor for student athletes. Although the courses covered while tutoring ranged from basic math to calculus, I am more comfotable tutoring algebra and geometry.
