A Little Bit About Me...

The past ten years for me have been spent teaching English and theology in a third-world setting in Africa, Nigeria to be specific. I have been responsible for organizing and overseeing the curriculum as well as classroom teaching since 1998. I was also a teacher at a Community College in Dallas, TX for a year. During my undergraduate degree, I was involved in tutoring English and math for students who were struggling. I feel that my academic knowledge as well as the practical experience I have gained over the years qualify me to help tutor students in English and math.
I am a strong believer in the Socratic style of teaching which, as you know, helps students themselves to think through issues and problems and discover the answer as we move along. When I was a high school student, I tutored pre-algebra, geometry and algebra, Shakespeare, World Literature, and Earth Science. I managed my own clients and improved test scores with every client. During the summer of 2005, I tutored mentally disabled children in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. I attended the University of Idaho and have received a B.S. in Mathematics. While there, I worked at the Polya Math Lab, tutoring college algebra. I continued to tutor on my own during college, and have tutored in all forms of vector calculus, from methods of integration to 3d modeling. I have also tutored Abstract Algebra (group and ring theory), Combinatorics, and Number Theory. I am particularly good at walking people through proofs. None of my family had gone to college, so it was predicted I would not either. I had a hunger to learn, so I systematically worked full-time and studied part-time, earning eight major degrees in cities where they alowed residency rquirements to be met in such a way. I was young and energetic, so it was a lot of work, but a joy. It took about 15 years to finally earn my doctorate. Along the way, I earned certification in a half dozen fields (especially loved English, social stuides, and psychology). I was employed for decades in education, teaching full-time for five years, often teaching on the side when I was counselor or administrator. Except for my earliest years of employment (where I was often employed full-time in radio or newspaper), I often tutored along the way.
