I love working with kids of all ages. All children are unique and they all learn in different ways. I believe its the teachers responsibllity to understand how their students learn best and then help communicate the curriculum to them in a way that they will best uderstand and retain that knowledge.
I was homeschooled for the majority of my education which enabled me to assit my younger brothers and sisters in their studies. Throughout my schooling I have attended multiple classes in reading/writing, science, history, computer/I.T., foreign language, creative arts, business and math. For two years I was involved with the Big Brother program where I worked with an autistic student. I’m currently employed at US Bank where I work as a mutual fund analyst. I’m also on the training committee at US Bank where I’ve been gaining real world experience helping others.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from UW Oshkosh with a BS degree in Elementary Education and English. I have been a teacher for 18 years. I have taught all subjects to PreK, second and third grades. I have also worked with At risk high school students. I am currently a professional caregiver and activity aide in a group home with individuals who have physical and cognitive disabilities.
As a teacher, I believed strongly in cooperative learning where peers are taught to teach each other. I enjoy one on one teaching where I can focus on a students' needs much easier. I believe that hands on experiences are beneficial to all students. Each child learns differently and I like to focus on and teach according to their learning style.

Free and unconstrained autobiographical writing is one of the best ways to coax a student insecure about his or her writing skills into putting into words intense experiences from their own life. I tell my students to just tell me in their own words what they are trying to say. When they speak aloud, the words flow, and then I say, "There is your opening sentence right there. Quick! Write it down." At other times, I ask them to pretend that they are really someone else, an actor in a television show, for example, and I have them imagine that the character, not they themselves, are speaking. This releases the student to let go of inhibitions and let the film roll "for the character" and then they stop focusing on themselves.
