I have been given a solid education at the undergraduate level at The College of Saint Rose where I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Childhood Education. I have my NYS Initial Teaching Certification in both Early Childhood Education and Childhood Education. I have just recently been accepted into the college’s Curriculum and Instruction program at the Graduate Level. I am also working on an advanced certificate in teaching student with disabilities. I have recently finished a yearlong mentoring program through a local elementary school called the ‘Help Yourself Academy’, which allows underprivileged children to have positive role models in their everyday life. A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated Cum Laude from Manhattan College with a double major in Psychology and Communications. In addition to studying for two majors, I was also a Division 1 athlete and held 2 jobs. Seeing as I was very busy with extracirricular activities, I believe that my graduating with honors was truly a testament to how hard I worked. Since college, I have worked in two jobs that have really tested my gramatical, reading, editing and speaking skills. I love working with children. I was involved in girl scouts from first grade all the way to 12th grade and in those years I learned a lot of leadership skills. I am very patient and want to provide education to anyone that needs it. When I was in school I often struggled with school work, so I learned many different techniques to learn how to learn.
While I was an undergraduate, volunteering was very important to me. One of the places I volunteered was an after school program for children who live in Hamilton Hill. While I volunteered there I helped many of them with there homework as well as extra reading and writing to help improve those skills. I found that my psychology major as well as my education and english minors were very useful and helpful to help tutor in all subjects.

In addition to academics, my students and I focus a lot on being good citizens, and having open/honest communication. I try to foster an environment that instills respect and understanding. In reading, we do both guided reading and book club units. This allows students to get individual skills, along with discussing full texts with one another. My students are very pationate about their writer's notebooks, and the writer's workshop program we have been focusing on this year (and years past). Growing up I dealt with dyslexia. I understand that each and every kid has a different learning style and not one style is better then the rest. My goal is to make learning as much fun as possible by pin-pointing the learning style of the student and finding ways to make learning more interesting. My most important goal is to teach children that everyone has the skills to excel and that learning can be fun.
