SAT - Math is one of my top subjects!

I attempt to answer questions and explain concepts with as much detail as possible, while letting students discover answers on their own. I try and let the student arrive at the answer as independently as possible. I explain concepts using technical terminology, lamen terms, analogies, examples, pictures, videos, or drawings, etc.
My educational intetests lead me to complete a wide range of subject-disciplines in Mathematics. At the South Puget Sound Community College Math Center, in an open classroom setting, I tutored up to ten students an hour. I also tutored privately for several years around that time, and in March of this year began tutoring again. I believe that whenever I'm working with a student they have the capacity to learn and internalize the material. I believe that the student can learn the material. My method of mathematical and scientific instruction is based off the Polya style of teaching where the instructor guides their students by questions and reviewing the known information. Thus the student's questions drive the student towards the answer desired. I find great personal reward when working with students. After explaining information and working on helping a student understand the material there's sometimes that moment when you can watch the student go from not knowing what's going on to sudden understanding. Moments like that make my day.

A Little Bit About Me...

Since completing my formal degree training I have worked in several capacities in the field of education. I taught inner-city young adults in Washington, D.C. in all GED subjects. I worked as a Guidance Counselor and Education Services Officer for the Army for eight years. In the past two years I have tutored under the auspices of Tacoma Community College in all GED subjects. Prior to my work with TCC I tutored in the Kid Reach program for three years.

As the middle child in the family, I was very competitive among my siblings. I was very much driven to achieve goals that I set for myself.
