A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated with a degree in earth science education in 1995. I worked for several years as a substitute teacher and then returned to college to gain biology certification. I worked at a local high school for five years teaching seventh grade science and senior high general science. For the last six years I have worked for a head start program. I am currently doing subsitute teaching again and would love to help students be successful by providing tutoring. For subjects like math, it is simple to develop a step by step method for the students to write down and follow. Once the students have mastered the steps they are motivated to continue with the material because it seems straightforward. It is also important to have the students connect to the material; if they understand how the information is used in every day life then they will become more excited and motivated to learn. Later, as a homeschooling mother of four, I taught all of my children all subjects through the eighth grade level. I just returned from the island of Saipan, where I taught high school English in a private school, and seventh grade English in a public school.
