I am comfortable tutoring lower level math classes, mechanical design, or other engineering classes. Writing classes such as English, literature, or fine arts are fine as well. I have a BS in Mechanical and Aerospace engineering from MIZZOU. I am very proficient in technical editing, critiquing papers and writing technical papers.
Hands on, Practice based, through step by step instruction. Visual learning whenever applicable. Geometry, algebra, physics, and some calculus are in my range of teaching. I am very patient as long as the student is trying to learn and cares about the work. Mental support of students is half the battle.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is not memorization but rather practice. The best method that I found for teaching math based subjects is step by step work throughs for each problem. By taking the time to step through each math problem, the student learns the theory (Algebra, geometry, etc) as well as the solution. Just solving the problem doesn't teach them as much as understanding HOW to get the solution
I have taught mathematics, statistics and technical math for 15 years. Primarily my audience has been working adults seeking to take a certification examination. In my training as a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt and Quality Engineer, I use many mathematical models, including algebra, geometry, statistics, and engineering modeling.

After receiving a BS in Business Administration from a liberal arts college, I worked for several years in the business world. The majority of my work experience has been in the banking and finance industry. It was through these experiences that I realized my true passion for learning could be shared through training and teaching. The past two years I have been studying to earn my teaching certification. I prefer to begin by having the student describe the current subject matter to the best of his/her abilities to determine a starting point. I have found that having the student talk through the subject matter can be useful in determining his/her strengths and level of understanding. I like to have the student work through some problems they have not been assigned from their book/notes so that they are able to practice and work through some other problems before attempting any assignments. I have also found that it is useful to go over any previous quizzes or tests related to the current subject matter as difficulties are sometimes related to previous work because with these subjects the work tends to build upon itself.
I have been selected as a peer tutor through Carlow University for Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.

The purpose of my teaching is to allow every student to succeed. I will try any way possible to reach this goal for every child. Working in the sciences, I feel that inquiry learning is important and hands-on experience is essential. Each student has their own way of learning best and I try to find that learning style and use it whenever possible.
I graduated from IUP with a degree in Biology Education. I am certified in Biology and Middle School Science. I taught for one semester at Central Bucks School District where I taught Academic Biology, Astronomy and Oceanography. I then taught two years at Gateway School District where I taught 8th grade physical science. I now have a permanent position at Yough School District where I teach 7th grade Life Science. I am also currently pursuing my Masters in Education.
