A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that every student can learn. When I work with adult students, I am amazed at the ones that don't really believe in themselves. Some adults have been discouraged by family members, life circumstances, or by their poor performance in school. Regardless of the reasons, I always try to help my students see their potential and tap into their dreams. We all have a dream in our heart. I think that when my students start to believe in themselves again they achieve greater levels of success. My goal is to help them move beyond their past experiences and see more clearly their potential.
I am very passionate about helping others succeed. One of the best decisions that I have ever made was to pursue my childhood dream of being a teacher. I have primarily worked with at-risk populations (varying age groups) and believe in every single one of my students. I have a Master's ... read more

I take a student-centered, hands-on approach to teaching. Individual learning styles must be addressed, and tutoring is an excellent way for a student to receive the type of instruction best suited for his/her learning style(s). Science can often be a difficult subject to learn, and also a difficult subject to teach; often requiring a careful blend of subject mastery, an arsenal of teaching strategies, and creativity.
I have 4 years of combined instructional experience from teaching at public high school and at a state university. I have taught across the spectrum; from learning disabled (ESE) to gifted (IB), as well as college students. A 60-hour ESOL class has been completed (as required by law), and I have worked extensively with ELL students. The following is a list of the disciplines in science for which I have experience teaching: Biology (regular and honors), Ecology, P ... read more

During that time I taught German, French and Spanish to middle and high school students. Subsequently, I was offered a teaching position for the Department of Dependent Schools, which is managed by the Department of Defense Education Activity. I taught Study Skills and German for three years in the Ramstein area in Germany. I then transferred to the United Kingdom where I taught these modern languages on an air base near Cambridge. Presently I am teaching ESL to businessmen in the Tampa Bay area as a free lance contractor. I believe I have a good mental connection with children. Teaching Math is not just about solving problems, using specific methods, equations & formulas that the student has to memorize, and then will forget after a couple days. It's about understanding the problems, it's about knowing where the problem is, and how to solve it using basic Math knowledge and some axioms, step by step, even reinventing the answer, if possible. Teaching Spanish is a lot different, its more methodical, I use some mnemonic "tricks" for the kids & adults to remember the important words & translations.
My best skill is Math, I have always been proficient at it. As an Engineer, I have had the opportunity to learn more and take advantage of this skill, and I want to share it, I love teaching. I am also a member of MENSA. I have been tutoring children and adults since 1999, teaching Math, Physics & Spanish. ... read more

I have two younger brothers, ages 14 and 15, who I feel have made me that great tutor that I am today. Along with the assistance and support of my mother, we have pushed them to learn at a young age, and more often that not I grew up assisting them from their multiplication tables to beginner calculus. I feel that with constructive support and encouraging educators ANY student can flourish. I am very patient, try to convey concepts in simple step by step fashion, almost how I process it in my mind. I really strive to make a difference in all the young ones who I come across in my life.
